| Rules are meant to be broken | Re: Prison for 166 mph Quote: This remind me of that guy a while ago in france who received a fine for speeding over 100 ks on a highway at about 250 kmh.He took the fine to the policestation to telling them they were doing a mistake. It was his name on the fine with his licence plate so obviously it was his vehicule, the only thing was the licence plate number belonged to his tractor .But he still had to pay the fine then had to go to court to get his money and points back wtf

A while back a guy here in Adelaide got a fine from a red light/speed camera while his car was being towed backwards by a tow truck after breaking down. He still had to pay.

As somebody who has spent far too much of my life reading and testing British traffic law, there is still one question that I would love to test in Court. The law lays down 'mechanically driven/powered', just where do vehicles powered by thrust fit in Last edited by TheDuck; 11-17-2009 at 2:22 AM. |

Then the tow truck driver would have had to pay the fine and receive the demerit points. Cheers, Brian.

I got pulled over in Wyoming doing 96 in a 65, ticket was $82. The county sheriff said that over 120 mph they're supposed to arrest you but they never do. Officer: "Watch the speed, drive safe, have a nice day." I smiled and rode off............. PS. A riding buddy of mine is a cop. He says bikes run all the time, and in urban areas they won't give chase. Most police cars (Crown Vics in Colorado) are governed at about 128 mph, the newer Chargers at about 145 according to him. Ride safe. |

Here in CA, felony speeding is anything above 100mph or twice the posted speed limit (whichever comes first). Jail time and tons of fines and loss of license (suspension)! They can also add "wreckless endangerment" and "attempted suicide" to the charges...and they often do...care to guess how I know this?!?!?!?!?!

I think the jail sentence was OTT Removing the guys license & a hefty fine would serve two purposes from the states point of view. 1 removal of potential threat from other road users 2 more money to the Taxman the harsh prison sentence in this case is designed to place the sword of Damocles above the heads of regular high speed junkies Top offender = Over the Top punishment This is just the price you pay in a high tech society with a high population density ![]() the laws of physics and common sense(of non bikers) combine to prop up Draconian laws ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In reality His actions on that day probably posed little actual risk on a clear and open road. we Bikers know that, but will fail to win a the argument where the majority rules ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The Inherent Problem The need for speed is one just of the innumerable ways us "earth monkeys" like to get our kicks....it is the nature of the beast I think there is a strong case for building suitable "arenas" that satisfy our need for speed Yes there are drag strips and race tracks but there are few "open arenas" for the expression of speed....and hence the desire too use public highways The solution is either the creation of "open arenas" or the expansion of organized events that will be "attractive" with a CAPITOL A to those who feel the need for speed part of being "attractive" will be a low barrier to entry in terms of time money & travel distance another part of attractive will be the natural shift of culture away from the road and onto the track should such "attractive arenas" be established. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Conclusion there is a lot of sense in what im talking about here...however the powers that be are attracted to another kind of power thats not BHP related and will require substantial lobbying by us in order to open their eyes and make the world a place where greater freedom, fun & saftey co exist....something we all want ! in order to win the game you must play the cards you are dealt " the need for speed " is one of those cards which the player (society) must make the most out of.....shuffling it to the bottom of the pack does not make it go away ! Horse riders of Iron or hairy steeds face ever increasing restrictions on right to roam and this must be addressed...both groups have a great deal in common Tesla for president ![]() Last edited by TESLACOIL; 03-12-2010 at 11:20 AM. |
