A few Questions re Bird

1st. Should any after market screen marketed for the Bird fit the Bird as snug and perfect as oem?

2nd. How do you know if your front sprocket needs to be replaced?

3rd. My Bird runs excellent but, when I twist the throttle at 3,500- 4,000 rpm I hear a wirring gear sound. How would you know if the cam chain, not cct, would need examining/replacing? Could that wirring sound be the chain and sprockets? Chain is in excellent condition, did gold, and always kept clean and lubed. No suggestions from my tech that it needed replacing.

Re: A few Questions re Bird

1.No,zero gravity fits very well, nevr heard a givi complaint, sportech is absolute crap.
2.Have a close look at the teeth, the drive side wears more,it helps to have a new one beside it when doing this but I know we don't all work in bike parts depts.
3.They usually take awhile to stretch,50,000 + km,you have tons of k's,has it been done yet?If not I would definately change if it were mine.

Answering your first question, the Pyramid double bubble which I bought from Jaws was a perfect fit (just like the Pyramid hugger). The Fabbri double bubble which a friend bought was awful - no appreciable step around the edges of the screen which meant that it didn't sit flush.

Re: A few Questions re Bird

Partsguy, I see you're on line. The rear spocket and chain, did gold, is new from last spring. The smaller, unseen front sprocket is at least three years old. I don't want to replace the chain, rear spocket now. Will it create an issue if I just change the front sprocket? I just can't nail down the "whirring" sound at 3,500 plus rpm when I choke the throttle. What internal chain gears are there on the Bird? She runs strong, it's just that sound that bugs me.

Re: A few Questions re Bird

I don't think slight wear on the front sprocket would create a whirring sound. So what's left? Cam chain,rr wheel bearings?
What do you mean by internal chain gears? Gears for the cam chain?

Re: A few Questions re Bird

I changed out the wheel bearing a couple years ago along with the head bearings. OK, gears for the cam chain?

Re: A few Questions re Bird

CB, If anything, I have found that most of the after market screens I have used have fit fine.....but if anything, were thinner than stock. Right now the double bouble I am running , required that I make 2 oversized washers , 1 for each outside top through bolt, so that I could take up the difference with the thinner wind screen.

Asfor your front spocket....I would just pull your primary cover and have a quick look. a) you may want to clean it out anyways...clutch rod included, and while your in there, just check to see if the sprocket teeth are starting to hook....if they are, replace it.

As for the noise....could be clutch or chain noise.....it's a little hard to pin point that one without hearing it.
