My worst ticket so far

Well, I was going to the coast a couple of weeks ago, and decided to open it up for a bit. Had just went went over I-5 on an overpass, no one in front of me as far as I could see, and no one behind me. I didn't look up I-5 (should of) but a CHP was going South on I-5 and he saw me going West. Got me for 94 in a 55.
What's that going to set me back?

At least $250 plus surcharges on your insurance.

Re: My worst ticket so far

Now it is time to pay the piper. I got a parking ticket in the Market District of LA last summer that cost $75.00. No idea what a 40 over will cost. Get a lawyer. 1000-1500?

Get squared away and invest in a good radar detector and the helmet warning system. It will be less than this ticket. I will be getting this set up ASAP since the moron in office in GA has decided to TAX tickets. I can now justify the expense of a radar detector system, since one big whopping ticket would be more expensive than the unit!

Here in OZ (which I know wont answer your question) you would be an instant pedestrian for at least a month (mandatory) and if they were nasty and went the dangerous driving route then maybe 9 months.. and a $600 (i think) fine..

If he was going south and you were going west how did he get you? That's a right angle intercept. As far as the citation goes, stand bye. That's 44mph over and if a judge gets it he may see it as reckless, which could be anything over 20. I'm surprised the chippy didn't impound the bike.

I lived in SoCal up until March of 2006. At that time anything over 20 was considered reckless and where I lived I guarantee you the ride was not going home with you. It didn't help matters that I lived near Temecula off the I15, which at that time was #1 in the nation for tickets issued at or above 100mph. They were taking no prisoners, only rides and a very hefty fine. The $1,200 mentioned before is no joke and I have heard of closer to $1,700 but that I know had reckless behind it or exhibition of speed. RADAR doesn't work out the side of the unit and while I do know the CHP run some of the most sophisticated systems in the nation it still isn't that good. Now, a bird in the air, which they do run on the corridor he is talking about is another story.

Think yourselves lucky, over here in the UK, 30mph over the speed limit for the road is an automatic 12month ban ... once thats up it's a hell of a battle to get bike or car insurance!

come on its not that bad! Whilst the Mags can vary in their sentencing what you have suggested is way outside what they can impose. 56 day bans are quite common for 100+ in a 60 (+£500 fine + costs), year bans are much less common. Sorry to say my other 'pastime' is road traffic law so I keep a very keen eye on this! They are still more interested in big fines, £1500-2000 now appearing commonplace for 110 in 70 (Motorway) in certain parts of the country.

A mate of mine was clocked at 263kmh in a 60kmh zone. He never told us the fine, but ended up doing six months in a minimum security prison before being released. He has not received his bike back yet (let alone his licence) and this happened four years ago....

Go to court prior to your court date and you can see which lawyers are in tight with the judge. Ask them to take your case. Often in NJ you will be allowed to plead to a lesser charge with a steep fine but overall with insurance it is actually cheaper.

Lol, I was only going with worst case senario, It's what they can impose if they wish to

Mate of mine was really lucky recently, got pulled by an unmarked police car on the M1 doing 147mph and still accelerating ... gave him 3 points and £60 fine and said that if he had been doing any undertaking or other dodgy manourver he'd be off the road for 12 months ...

Re: My worst ticket so far

Montana (US) USED to have a "reasonable and prudent" speed limit (for about 2 years)... I used to pass cops going well over 100MPH in the summer time and they didn't care... now if it was winter and you were going above what the cop concidered the above you got a HEFTY fine (since there were no highway speed limits, there was less income, so they raised the fine IF you got one).... but then the gov't got involved and forced us to put up speed limits or take away our federal funding....
FAWK THE US!!!!.... sometimes...

Re: My worst ticket so far

My worst ticket was for 34 mph over. The speed limit
was 35 mph on the Skyline drive in VA, and I was doing
69 mph on my tricked out Tour Easy recumbent with
a full windscreen, and 56 x 11 gearing.

Of course it was downhill, but I still had more gear before
I spun out. The cop (Ranger) was amused, but still gave me
a ticket.

I later sold it to the Curator of the Smithsonian Institute.

Well, I am pleasantly surprised. I was expecting the worst and it went quite well.
Went to the window at court to sign in and the lady said because I wasn't going over 100mph, I didn't have to go before the judge. Said the fine was $415. Paid the fine and went on my way.

What court were you dealing with? The penalty assessment alone should have been more than the $415.00. Hell, parking in a handicapped slot is $300 and the fact you still have the bike is beyond me the way things are in California now. I know a guy in San Bernardino that got nailed by the CHP 2 weeks ago for 82 in a 55 and it cost him an impound of the bike as well as a must appear for the bend over portion; yet to happen yet. Getting the bike back was $325 for the tow and storage alone.

lucky S.O.B. that just gives you more of a reason to do 165 in a 65 LOL hell if it only cost me 150 bucks... but your insurance will skyrocket... if you have to have it that is ... just make sure you have life insurance at that point... im pretty sure they don't check your driving record LOL
