Re: My worst ticket so far

Montana (US) USED to have a "reasonable and prudent" speed limit (for about 2 years)... I used to pass cops going well over 100MPH in the summer time and they didn't care... now if it was winter and you were going above what the cop concidered the above you got a HEFTY fine (since there were no highway speed limits, there was less income, so they raised the fine IF you got one).... but then the gov't got involved and forced us to put up speed limits or take away our federal funding....
FAWK THE US!!!!.... sometimes...

Re: My worst ticket so far

My worst ticket was for 34 mph over. The speed limit
was 35 mph on the Skyline drive in VA, and I was doing
69 mph on my tricked out Tour Easy recumbent with
a full windscreen, and 56 x 11 gearing.

Of course it was downhill, but I still had more gear before
I spun out. The cop (Ranger) was amused, but still gave me
a ticket.

I later sold it to the Curator of the Smithsonian Institute.

Re: My worst ticket so far

Well, I am pleasantly surprised. I was expecting the worst and it went quite well.
Went to the window at court to sign in and the lady said because I wasn't going over 100mph, I didn't have to go before the judge. Said the fine was $415. Paid the fine and went on my way.

What court were you dealing with? The penalty assessment alone should have been more than the $415.00. Hell, parking in a handicapped slot is $300 and the fact you still have the bike is beyond me the way things are in California now. I know a guy in San Bernardino that got nailed by the CHP 2 weeks ago for 82 in a 55 and it cost him an impound of the bike as well as a must appear for the bend over portion; yet to happen yet. Getting the bike back was $325 for the tow and storage alone.

Re: My worst ticket so far

I got one in Sugarland (TX) for 165 in a 65 (long story). I was expecting jail, bike being impounded, etc. but no, just the paperwork. It didnt say how much it was so i called expecting it to be in the k's and to my suprise it was (your not going to believe this) $150.00!! Unbelievable. I had to call back twice to make sure the girl didnt make a mistake.

lucky S.O.B. that just gives you more of a reason to do 165 in a 65 LOL hell if it only cost me 150 bucks... but your insurance will skyrocket... if you have to have it that is ... just make sure you have life insurance at that point... im pretty sure they don't check your driving record LOL

In Texas I could believe it but you have to know the CHP and these guys would attempt to write their dead grandmother a ticket as well as impounding her car. These guys get up on the wrong side of the bed every day and enjoy it.

Hey Mike, I actually remember those.. I once drove cross country (I believe in 1996 it was) and remember seeing those "reasonable and prudent" signs in Montana, that was awesome!

Further down the road I got pulled over in Washington State, but the cop didn't give me a ticket.. upon seeing my German drivers licence he just said "This ain't the Autobahn, son!" and let me go!

Hehe, for every asshole cop, there is a nice one as well

Re: My worst ticket so far

Well fellow Californian guess you lucked out. I got popped a few years back doing over 100mph on the 91fwy in the Fastrak. The cop was on a Harley and you know there aren't many cops still riding those so I mistook him as a cruiser behind me. No wonder he was able to keep up splitting traffic. Then when I got to the Fastrak I opened it up and he'd had enough... on came the lights! He was cool though and wrote the ticket for 80mph (something about that being the maximum allowed speed???) and the fine wasn't too much. However with the economy the way it is and our great state being broke I thought you'd get slammed. An old timer at work was just pulled over on Ball Rd. in Anaheim for going 48mph!!! Let me put this into perspective. He was complaining the other day that he had to pay the ticket of $325. I know what he drives and found it hard to believe that he could get a "speeding" ticket! His car requires oil and water before leaving for work and leaving work for home, you get the idea. I guess the speed limit is 40mph. I've worked there for nearly 17yrs. and I couldn't have told you the speed limit! So he got popped for 48 in a 40. What a bunch of B.S. NOBODY does that speed on that road so its basically just easy pickens' for our state revenue. Its kind of good to know what happened with you 'cause since I found out about his ticket I've been wondering what would happen if/when I get stopped.

Re: My worst ticket so far

One time on Hiway 87 between Lavernia and SanAntonio on the ZX-12R I got clocked doing 172 in a 70 by a state trooper. I also didnt have a MC liscense. He was cool, and the ticket ended up being for 90 in the 70. He never asked about the liscence.

A couple of weeks later I was on 410. Legislation is still pending so I wont go into details, but this time I was going significantly faster, and a helicopter was involved. I didnt evade, but they charged me with evasion (a felony) and I dont have that bike anymore.

Re: My worst ticket so far

Hot damn Champ it sounds like you should move over here for a while until you have it out of your system? The roads in Texas are nice and straight but that doesn't mean it's ok for you to try to set a landspeed record

I'm actually amazed that the trooper was so cool about the 172 in a 70. I've gotten very rough treatment from American police for a lot less.. but maybe that's because I'm a punk ass Foreigner with an attitude

When you mean "legislation is still pending".. you mean a trial is still pending right? Are they going to make you a pedestrian for that stunt for a while?

Re: My worst ticket so far

In using 'legislation' I used the wrong word, but yeah I had a trial date last month, but they 'lost' the footage from the chopper showing that I wasnt evading so it got reset. I was charged with racing and evasion. If I get convicted of evasion I may go to prison, if just racing then I may get my liscense suspended but Ive had a few friends get racing (some from that same night) and they just got probation and fines. Im not sure if I want to take probation though.

At the time I was in the Marines and so was the trooper and his son so that had some bearing on his being cool.
But he wasnt all cool. When he got out of the car and approached me I was still on the bike, but it was off. I was sitting there thinking how ****ed I was and the first thing he did before either of us said anything was smack me across the back with his night stick and call me a maniac. It was a sorta soft blow though plus I had a riding jacket with padding on the back so it didnt hurt too bad. I think he felt kinda bad about hitting me.

The night I lost the mighty Ninja, I got off the bike and kneeled down with my hands behind my helmeted head waiting for the cops. 5 cops got out of 3 cars. One ran over and pushed my bike on its side while the other four roughed me up a bit. one violently wrenched my arms behind my back pushing me to the ground, another ripped my helmet off without undoing it, breaking my glasses. One of the others kicked me (while the first was still wrenching my arms behind my back and I was lying on my stomach) from the front landing first across my shoulder then my face, and one fished my wallet out of my jeans. I had commited no crime besides excessive speed on a well lit highway at midnight on a wednesday and not resisted in anyway.

Ive had my share of other negative experiances with them too.

I suppose they lost the video footage from the dash cams of them roughing you up too? Maybe the chopper footage and dash cam's were sold to "Worlds Wildest Police Chases".

<cue voice> "The motorcyclist decides to RUN FROM THE LAW... at breakneck speeds of OVER A HUNDRED MILES AN HOUR! "

You don't know how funny "COPS" sounds from here.. my mom goes a hundred miles an hour in her weather-beaten VW to go see my grandfather.

Re: My worst ticket so far

Yeah, I feel fortunate considering how much worse it coud have been . I have ridden 100,000 miles in the last 5 years and my speeds have been getting faster and faster. I have gotten 5 tickets in that time frame, all for speeding, plust last year I buzzed around an unmarked officer at 100 and he pulled me over, but let me go. It was just a matter of time, before I got busted at a high speed. It was a wakeup call, because there were few times when I went out riding outside of town, when I didn't hit at least 140. I've got to really mind my p's and q's now though.
