The one thing i hate the most is stupid drivers who for some reason are just pissed at all bikers. I just finished making a hand turn at the light when this idiot slammed his brakes for no reason at all right in front of me. I was forced to lay my bird down and I slid under his truck busting off my mirror on his bumper. This guy decides hes just doing to floor it and get out of there quick, luckily there was another bike right behind me who got the guys plates written down. Unfortunately i wasnt wearing my jacket because Fresno heat is just to much for leathers right now. Decided after my arm got all messed up now its time to buy a summer jacket. I hate stupid people who purposely try to hurt bikers. The one nice thing about this bike though is when layed down it didnt really take too much damage which is nice, just a new mirror bracket and a new brake lever with minor scratches to the fairings.

Glad you're ok. But, and here's where I sound like the prick, If you were following close enough that a Truck was able to slam on the brakes and you couldn't stop or avoid it you were following way to close. Anything bigger than a Ranger/S10 has no where near the braking power of a Bird. And if it caught you off guard and couldn't react, again following to close. Sorry, the guy might have been an ass and was trying to cause an accident but you screwed up. Don't worry, making mistakes is how we learn.
If you want to stay in this game long here's some advice. Expect every car in front of you to stomp on the brakes, Every car sitting at a side street or driveway to pullout in front of you, and every car coming at you to turn in front of you into that driveway or side street. Oh and when you pull up to a stoplight always leave your bike in gear, leave your self an out (don't pull up right behind a car, stay to one side or other) and watch the car pulling up behind you to make sure he stops. I've seen two bikes booted out into intersections when they were rear ended.

It was my first time going down so at least now I know what its like so I can better react next time.

I was coming over a bridge in a construction zone at about 20-25 mph in bumper-to-bumper traffic with nowhere to go on the right and nowhere to go on the left due to heavy traffic and no choice in any gap unless I wanted the 4 wheel drive lifted truck that was tailgating me to run over me. Suddenly, the old man in the Caddy in front of me slammed on his brakes and I grabbed every bit of braking I had - enough to black out and find myself laying in the road next to my bike. The only thing I could have done differently is stayed home.
So...you can be a really good rider and still get bit in the ass. Just wear your gear. I had one dime size abrasion on my knee and that was it. The VF1000F did not fare nearly as well.

Logoman Hillbilly4eva make some good points. You can do everything right and still have an off. You can try to anticipate everything and be an experienced and safe rider and someone else can screw up your whole day for you in a second. Glad to hear that you and the bike are mostly OK.

Man, that is so wrong on so many levels. I'm glad you weren't hurt worse. Around these parts the solution would be:143 g 9mm +P, clip of 30. But, that's not the right answer either...

I've done the exact same thing, washed out the front end grabbin to much brake on a slick oily city street. But it was my fault and I know it and learned. Lets just say it started on one wheel and ended on none
I teach High School Special Ed, Behavior and LD kids mostly, and I constantly have to deal with kids and parents that are unwilling to take responsibility for their actions and mistakes. I have no problem with people (especially high school students) making mistakes, just admit and learn from it, it's called life.
Good luck to ya and take solace in the fact that you'll be a better rider because of the experience.

I ride in the Bay area and have'nt had that happen yet, just glad to hear your not that hurt since you did'nt have gear on. One thing bothers me about what happened. You said your tires locked up, so, what type are your running and could this have been a factor in the lock-up and going down? I run an Avon storm in the rear and an Avon viper up front for better grip. I do alot of practice stops at high and low speeds and find it very difficult to lock my front tire. I'm just thinking, maybe different tires along with the other suggestions would help in avoiding this kind of incident. Just my 2 cents...

I teach in a regular high school and I still have the same type of kids you do Mr Hillbilly. No doubt shit happens when we're riding which is why I'm always armoured regadless of the temp. Sorry about your off glad you and the Bird are ok. When slowing or stopped, I always PULSE my brakes and when entering an intersection, if I'm in the right of way, I put up my left hand, palm outward, indicating to the other driver to stop. It seems to work. In fact, I no longer commute to school, it's only 10 kms and not worth the risk with so many idiots in cages and ignorant multi-cultural drivers.

So glad to hear you could walk away from it. Unfortunately there are pricks like that world wide.

Sure there are plenty pricks out there but I think there pissed off at us mainly because they don't have the nuts to get out there themselfs so it makes them feel better to try to cause up problems...
But I look forward to the rides each day having 10 time more fun than the average cager on his way to work and getting awsome gas milage to boot!
I was rolling into the parking lot this morning at 05:15am thinking, Man I love this Bike!

Multi cultured drivers who have never seen snow is my favorite. You want to stay away from here when the white stuff starts to fall. They will be getting stuck in two inches of the white fluffy stuff.
