I'm new to the whole sport bike thing so I was wondering if anyone else's frame gets so hot you can barely touch it. Got back from a ride last night and was wondering why the inside of my thigh was on fire so I touched the frame and nearly burned my hand. Do Blackbirds run a little hot around town? Anyone try a water wetter product to reduce the heat?

I've got the Bird last summer and it was really worried about it getting pretty hot, but honestly don't remember the actual frame being that hot...

Been there... done that. I have been a bad boy and worn shorts a few times on the XX when going for short rides and have almost burned off my knees on the frame. It usually happens after riding around town and getting the engine temp up high and then letting the bike sit. The temp of the frame will then catch up towards the engine temp and burn the snot out of you. Welcome to the XX owners club.

Ok, thanks Ben. She does run pretty hot around town. Just didn't expect the frame to get that hot. Heat soak doesn't seem to be a real problem with how it runs. If anyone reads this, have you installed an actual temperature gauge on a 99 to know what it's running at? I'd like to see a real number and not just an H for too damn hot.

If your just running around town and sitting in traffic its going to be running around 215 to 220 but when you get out and let some air into it it will drop around the 180 mark

It'll run hot around town and then pass some of the temp into the "heater element" - the frame. It is normal for the bird to do this.......

Remember, the engine is solid mounted to the frame! No rubber insulation to stop the heat transfer...
