| Have you been drinking??? Look at the date, 2003!!!
If I'm not mistaken the current ZX is actually a ZZR1400 or ZX-14, they're comparing with a ZX-12 as being the "competition".
Another sad case of what might have been I reckon?
Looks tasty though, wouldn't be too keen to have any kind of V-Tec in the engine myself, not after all the "powerband" stories you read about the VFR. I want my power smoooooth and strong. |

it is very frustrating waiting for HONDA to get back in the game. I would love to see a new bird take the top speed record. a little more power a little less weight, What are they waiting for?

Good points. More power less weight. A good wheelbase is also a key item. One of the things that makes the bird a great bike is its balance. The wheelbase plays a part in this. IMO it makes the bike handle and feel lighter then the possible bird replacements that many of us often mention. The ZX14 and or Busa for example. I can't say that I have a lot of saddle time on either of those machines but from what little time I do have I feel that the bird is a much more manageable bike. Turn in is better. Bird feels easier to snap around to me. Its one of the thing that has kept me on the bird and happy with the bird.

The only problem with honda coming out with a new bird is the resale value on our birds would fall off the planet. I paid good money for mine and im sure others did to.

Wait just a minute what does resale value have to do with anything. I can personally say that I will NEVER EVER sell my 'BIRD so why would I give a damn what the resale value is.
If Honda were to come out with a new BIRD it would be just one more bike to add to the collection of great Honda machines.
This is just my opinion I don't know if anyone else would agree but that is just me.

Honda will NEVER come out with a replacement for the XX we all just have to deal with it and move on and upgrade your existing XX or sell it and buy something else. But we will never see anything like it again from Honda. It's just too bad. I think it's cause Honda is too diverse, ie: cars, mowers, jet ski's, snowblowers, generators, airplanes, robots, quads, formula one cars, weed wackers, rototillers ect. ect. ......... They have other fish to fry. As long as they can dominate the 600cc class, which they have for the last two years, I can attest to that I own an 07 600rr and I must say it's an AMAZING motorcycle. And rewrite the rules in the literbike class ie: 2008 cbr1000rr then they don't really care about the sport touring class.
Compared to the rest of the Japanese manufacturers they really don't make that many models of street bikes. Oh well, we all must consider the inevitable.... Our XX's will eventually wear out and we will move on to bigger and better things. OR NOT!!!!!! Happy and safe riding....

I can't see selling my Bird after the dosh in upgrades. It truly suits me, still looks awsome and goes fast enough for me at this age. After six years and 125,000 kms of touring I still love that motorcycle. However, never underestimate Honda, they may bring a new Bird out. They must know it's a cult bike with many owners who love the bike. Do you think they ever visit these web site??

Canadianbird. I don't think that they visit these sites much. Just my opinion. I think what might be a bigger driver in their decisions to make bikes would be found in sales data. Their own mostly. The bird wasn't a big seller athough when it first came out and was a speed champ it seemed to do better in the sales market. Might have been a bigger seller if they would have kept up with the competition in the HP and speed stakes after the busa came out. If they looked at where the other manufacturers were making their sales they might be more inclined to make a replacement as the Busa and ZX14 have real good sales figures from what I read and hear.

As a lover of it, I want a new bird with lowered weight and center of weight; lighter, more powered for zx14s' and busas', wilder plastics and a little bit graphics..

Sorry guys about the thread. I realized too late the bloody article was dated 2003. That would've been a wonderful machine.

Well it sparked some good conversation about what we would all wish for in a possible replacement.

I was reading the Australian Motorcycle News today and the new VFR, albeit modelled on the V5 engine from the RC211V will only have around 150HP ( 110kw ) for its 1000cc. Its not worth selling the bird for a reduction in power. I will keep mine and just hope they bring out a new one, one day but I wont hold my breath. Honda have lost the plot with its failure to bring out something to rival the Hayabusa.....but we all know that.

I spoke to a neighbour who works at the dealer close by. No new Bird, new VFR, the 1000 cc CB is here. Honda bags available for both. The Valdera(?) will be here next month. All with linked abs I believe. Keep tarting up you Birds b/c I think a new one is a pipe dream.

That, considering the lack of major updates is quite impressive |

I was watching Superbikes the other day and they said that the hayabusa was the longest running unchanged bike ever, Not changeing from when it came out till this year when they redid the whole bike. But in realilty It had to be the bb even though they arent here in the states they were still produced and very unchanged.

Para045... I've always wondered about the sales in other places. From the membership on this forum and other bird forums it always seemed that the bird was very popular outside of the US. It was also available for a longer period of time overseas so that would also verify your point.

You can still pick up the odd new BB here in Aus even now |
