    XXGIRL

Do we have a member with that tag?? Which brings me to the real topic. I watched a Doc on the CBC TV about being hit by lightening. They profiled this woman, riding a Bird at night, plate readING XXGIRL, who was hit by lightening while riding. She lived. Now this isn't my biggest riding fear however, what is your standard procedure when you ride into a cell or see one on the horizon. Remember, lightening can flash "sideways" up to 15 plus kms. I witnessed "sheet" lightening when riding into Cody, Wyoming and rode through a rain storm, it was windy but passed through it. yes or no? I never considered being struck by lightening although it has killed riders, all be it, not too many. What say you all??

    Re: XXGIRL

My excuse is that I'm studying primary teaching, but I'm pedantic anyway, you mean albeit, not all be it :-)

I think you'd be real frickin' unlucky to get hit by lightning on a bike, but even if you did it probably wouldn't be the lightning that would kill you, but falling off afterwards.

p.s. unless you're a chick, you're unlikely to get struck by lightEning ;-)

    Re: XXGIRL

the worst scenario...you ridind out in wide open space with nothing but trees...the first thing you must not do is find shelter under a tree....reach out any available buildind in the area but stay in a safe distance from antennas or anything like that...in case of severe lightning storm , keep your self as close to the ground and avoid anything that extends towards the sky....

    Re: XXGIRL

The only problem is that lightning doesnt hit the highest thing in the area but the the object/person with the highest opposing ion charge. there has been objects/people hit by lightning standing on the ground next to the empire state building and the bottom row of a statium with thousands of people and lightning rods around them. Trees do act like lightning rods because of there high biomass. there was one guy who was riding a bike on one side of a mountain in western america and was struck by lightning from a storm on the other side mountain it was like 30 miles away.

Getting hit by lightning is in the same league as being eaten by a shark !
There is much more to worry about when riding a bike.

I haven't seen the CBS show but it sounds like a big ouchie. The bike in her profile pic looks a lot like RAZINKANEs bike. Maybe it's just the pipes.

    Re: XXGIRL

It does look like she has the same exaust as I do. I have never seen another Bird with that exaust. I guess I am not as unique as I thought. Wouldnt the rubber tires protect aginst everything but a direct hit?

    Re: XXGIRL

If I ever see a shark with long legs and antlers trying to cross the road, I'll quit riding. I doubt the tires would protect you. What if it hit your watch, or some metal bling, or a farkle? OMG, nuke this tread.
