If both bikes are running right there is not a cold chance in hell that the yammie 1K is smoother than a Bird. I've ridden a lot of motorcycles and the only thing that comes close to being as silky smooth as the Bird is my Father's 07 FJR1300, which is also a dual counter balanced motor I think??
All that being said, In 15 years I've owned 3 Birds, 2 VFR's, 2 CB750"s, a 1994 CB1000 and a ZRX1200. I love Honda's and I'd probably ride another VFR if there was no Bird. But I think I'd also like to try a Yamaha FZ1, or possibly a Triumph Sprint or Speed Triple if I wanted a hooligan bike.

I had an 86 fz750 AND IT WAS FAST AT HIGH RPM. NICE BIKE. BUT IT WOULD BE SILLY TO COMPARE IT WITH A CBR1100XX.

I'd get a ZX-10, 12, or 14....or a Hayabusa. They are all cool bikes.
My other bike is a 2002 Yamaha FZ1 and it's a kickass Sport-Tourer. I really like it. |

My dealer has a tricked out ZX14 for under $10,000. It's a good deal plus the Concours for $14,000 which is also a good deal, I think. I would have to go with another engine configuration and I'l love to have a Guzzi. They sound lovely.

As far as 96' I owned a kwak GTR1000 , a.k.a. Concours, ... then is past, present, and future history, even I ride two more bikes actually: YZF 750 R 93' only for track , XT600Z 1VJ 85' only for fun
If not a Bird, ZX14....(but for the track GSXR 1000 )
BUT BUT BUT........

I would have to go with a VFR, but would have to get a bit more power from it. I think a 1100 VFR would do nicely. Mmmm, think of it. |

Mmmm, think of it. | I had a VFR for a short time and agree with you. It would be better to have a bit more punch. Nice bike but would be better with a bigger engine. I also used to have a V65 Sabre. Much better engine. More power. That thing would pull from any gear and any RPM range. It had shaft dive. Didn't like that. Some things that I noticed with these two bikes... I liked the looks of the VFR better. The Sabre with the bags and bigger faring was better for long distance touring. The Sabre was more roomy and had a more upright postition. Both seemed to have a high center of gravity. The bird is a better bike then either of those two. Better handling. More power. Better looks. Can do anything that those two can do but better IMO.

Well I just picked up a new '08 Concours14 to go with my '03 Blackbird. If I didn't have the Blackbird the C14 would be what I would want. The C14 is not near as nice a bike as the Blackbird, but it is more torquey and has more HP after I added the 2B slipon, PC3, BMC filter, and removed the flys. I traded a ST1300 in on the C14 cause it was underpowered and was so smooth it was boring. It did everything that I wanted, but had no "excitment" to it,,, to each his own,,,

Maybe a Triumph ST1050. I did ride a K1200S in California once and I was really impressed. One of the fastest vehicles I have ever been on. So maybe that too if it wasn't so expensive to buy and maintain.

I sold my 88 Hurricane for my original '99 Bird. Might have kept it much longer had the Fi Bird not come along. I'm a Honda guy all the way, so; maybe a VFR800 and a CBR1000RR. Or a turbo charged ST 1300 might be fun, and comfy. My buddy has a late '90s VFR with CF muffler exhaust, and it sounds soooo nice.
Later,

Hmmm, the BMW K1300S looks like some ex Honda Germany engineers moved camp & built the replacement with the best of both! Proper indicator switch and all! BMW K 1300 S - BMW K1300S - webBikeWorld |
