Did a search but ended up more confused then ever Am trying to figure out if the stock RAM mounting kit that comes with the Garmin Zumo550 fits on the bird?

Found a post which said it didn't fit and he had to get one that fit through the steering stem, and another which said it was a quickie to install, just hook up the power cables.

So which is it Zumo owners? Does the stock kit fit if I want to mount it to the clutch reservoir clamp? I just got VFR bars (haven't installed yet), will that give problems? I could see the GPSr knocking into the windscreen.

Thanks!

There's not really enough clearance from the windshield in my experience. I'm pretty happy with my setup, I just ran all-thread rod thru the steering stem and threaded a ram-ball on top. It's nice and centered that way too.

The VFR bars themselves will not cause any clearance problems. If you do a search on BARS you will find a post with some great instructions to mount the VFR bars. It's pretty straight forward to mount them. Keep rags around the master cylinders and don't squeeze the levers when you have the lines loose. I would also recommend a dremel to cut the tabs on the master cylinders.

I have the VFR bars and the standard mount with my ZUMO 550.
I do Not have a stock windscreen tho ! Tall Powerbronze Double Bubble windscreen works very well with the VFR / Zumo Mount combo.
No problems, easy installation and no clearance issues, lock to lock.

Thanks everyone!

John, that's great news indeed! I have a tall windscreen too, and hopefully it'll fit. Do you have a picture of your setup anywhere on this site?

Thanks again!
