Hi Guys,
The '02 VFR800 bars should be 43mm the same as the XX, well as long as there off a 6th Generation VFR. The '98-'01 VFR800 has got 41mm bars and the '02 to present day VFR800 has 43mm bars. I priced a pair of new ones from my local Honda Dealer, Westerns and they wanted around $250 a side, $500 a set, a little to much for me, so $220 for a set doesn't sound all that bad if you've got a bad back or sore wrists and there not bent.
Hey Nutter, $500 a set is what my local parts dude told me over the phone and he was probably flicking the pages of a mag when he told me, not even looking at the parts listing, who knows. All I know is that if you want parts, your wallets better off sourcing them from the States. I think you pay about $220-$250 in the States and with postage your still miles in front.
I purchased a set of Genmar risers and they seem to work fine, the pins and needles for the first 20-30 minutes are now gone and the riding postition is very similar and there a lot cheaper as well
I got my VFR bars from Metropolitan MC Spares (wrecker) in Silverwater, for ~$150 for the pair. Strangely, the guy I got them from there was one I knew who use to work at Western MC.![]()

Thanks John, that's a great site, parts are so much cheaper in the states. Infact we pay more for secondhand parts than you pay for new, go figure.
$220 a pair seems good value as long as they are 43mm![]()

02 VFR clipons should be fine as mentioned earlier. Thats what I have on my bike.
Guys,
Can I please get some advice on these bars & setup... I have a 2007 bird which I have just recently got back on the road after it was tipped & wrecked before my ownership. Fun project even if it did take me too long! First rides on the bike is it is absolutely awesome & so so pleased I went with the bike.... The linear power delivery, braking, steering & overall package is just excellent. No wonder they have such a great reputation of high speed touring with no fuss. (I note that there is a lot of discussion re the spacer to the rear shock to improve steering & will do this mod shortly) However the riding postion is great if I was 20 years younger & didn't spend so much time on the arse in the younger days from falling off dirt bikes! I expect I will adjust over time, but I could not get away from the desire to compare the riding position of my mates Suzuki Bandit hence started the consideration of bars with more lift without destroying the design... At the risk of being shouted down, the bird is a much much better bike all around, but I do sort of prefer the more upright position of the Bandit... (Be kind to the knees - you miss them when they are gone- why didn't I listen!)
I assume the VFR bars are a higher lift? If so, does it all fit without snarling on the screen & also cable adjustments required are minimal? Are there other alternatives better or simpler?
Any advices/ assistance would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Snidley... I have these on my bike. They raise the position about 3/4 to 1 inch. From what I have read this is about the same as the genmar spacer riser kit. These VFR bars look a lot better IMO. They look stock. I was not uncomfortable in the stock riding position. I feel the new position allow better leverage on the bars for my size. Your own size might play into the riding position. I do feel that the new position is touch more comfortable. These will not make the bike truley upright. Just a tad higher.
The 02 and up VFR bars will fit on you bike without making contact with the screen or faring in any way. No modifications of the brake and clutch lines are needed. They will bolt on with no major mods to the bike. They look stock on the bike. You will need to cut a locking tab on the master cylinders in order to allow the brake and clutch lines to rotate a touch. They are easy to install. If you want some install instructions that one of the other members posted up I can dig them up and send them to you. If you want to see comparison pics of the VFR bars and a couple of other options you can search here for a thread called BARS. Then look for a post by Helvet. He has some nice animated comparison pics of some different bar options. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Strek,
Many thanks for the advice. Sounds like this will be the option. Will follow up & dig a set up.
Cheers.

yep
Fitted my VFR bars today and they are a treat.
They raise the standard handle bar height while improving your rider reach. Reach length is shorter than having a set of (lets say Generic brand) risers under a stock set of CBR bars and they look better.
GOD wish I had done this a long time ago.![]()
