| . . Hey XX Family,
Yin Yang here . .Saturday before last I had an unfortunate turn of events, instead of riding the Bird like I should have, I took a kawasaki ZX6R for a quick stroll to the store. . . fortunately only moving about 12 mph coming to a stop, I hit a patch of water and the bike and I went sliding across the intersection . . ! ! ! WTF ? ? well, after a hard fall and 30 feet of sliding, I got up with a broken collarbone, bruised ribs and a broken foot . .but I DID GET UP AND WALK / STUMBLE AWAY. . .
wifey is pissed of course, but it could have been much worse. . she has been paying attention to some of what I say . . she said. . "If you were on the Bird, would the linked brakes have prevented that accident ?"
Well, just wanted to let my family know of unfortunate events but also let everyone know I am doing well and healing up each day . .after the 6 weeks of collarbone healing. . i'lll be trying to head back out there . .

I'd look at it the other way, personally...
i'd rather hit a patch of slick on a 600 than to try to wrestle, and possibly damage the 'Bird...

Glad to hear you are up and about. It's not the fall but the sudden stop that hurts.. Broken foot? Fibula maybe ?
I low sided last year (on my 83 y.o. fathers DRZ SM) and broke left scapula, fibula and about five bones in my foot.
Still battling the ankle (fibula)
Hope you heal fine. How's the Kawi ?

Hey dano . . how long did it take for the foot to heal, I did break 3 metatarsals in 2 places.
The Kawi is broken, but fixable, it started back up after the fall, no leaking fluids, the frame slider WORKED, but didn't stop the front fairing from getting cracked and the left peg / gear shift broke off

Would not have made a difference with LBS !
The front would have still let go !
I'm with the others' lucky you weren't on the 'Bird !
Get well and get back on

Consider yourself lucky that a car didn't finish the job and make a big piece of road pizza out of you!
Riding the LBS equipped 'bird may have helped , though probably not, you could have also have ended up with a 550 lb. bike land on top of you as well.
Hope you heal quickly!

If you are a member of a Kaw forum they might be able to help you put the ZX6R back together again. This forum has often helped people put their XX's back together after a mishap.

Linked brakes may have helped just a little bit (until the back wheel made it into the water). Aquaplaning is never a good thing on any bike. Lucky to end up with just a busted collar bone, foot and a damaged Kwaka, rather than a mangled body and a scratched up bird - cos the bird would have slid further or stopped harder.

I ride it more than they do ( maybe not after this ? ? ? )

Ouch, that hurts.
Allow yourself time to heal, don't get out there too quickly. I know it's hard to look longingly at your bird while your body recovers.
I had an accident in Feb and popped my collar bone out of the shoulder blade. I have a temporary plate in to hold it down. I don't have full use of my arm yet. My first ride was two months after my accident.
Be patient, time will heal your wounds.

I'm hiking, snowboarding, street and dirt riding but I'm not back to regular running. If I run, the next couple days the outside of the ankle really aches. The real bummer is the sesamoid bones located in the ball of the foot. I smashed those and they did not heal. They are about the size of a pea and they died. They give the tendons leverage for the big toe and that gives balance. It feels like I have rocks in my shoe. They want to cut them out but that has other issues. Hook toe etc. For now it is what it is and I hope to work through it and eventually get back to runnning. For now it's walking, swimming and the elipitical trainer. I'm 51 yo so maybe that has something to do with the slow heal. Hope yours goes faster.

hey Birdmanxx, I went over the top of a car on my bike about 20 years ago (he didn't see me and turned in front of me) and separated my collarbone from my shoulder and they didn't fix it. It never healed, but never really gave me a whole lot of trouble till a few years or so ago. What's the plate doing for you? I always assumed that it was ligaments holding it on place. I really am starting to get interested in getting it fixed. It messes with me.
Then may my knee ...
Sorry to hear about your incident YinYang, that sucks.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune yinyang99, hope you have a speedy recovery and I also hope that the wife doesn't give you to hard a time about getting back on board. You'll need to do some serious sucking up whilst recovering.

Inglbird, the plate comes out in two months. After the first operation to put the plate in there was a fair bit of physio therapy to get my shoulder moving properly. They say that when the plate comes out it is a lot easier - two weeks or so.
With the plate in it is uncomfortable and at first quite painful. It is about a six month process to get the plate in then work on the shoulder then finally take it out.
As I understand it, getting the operation very soon after the accident gives it a better result. I don't know how they manage a longer term separation.
I won't know until another few months how successful this whole process will be.
YinYang - How are you going with it all?
