VFR Heli bars on an XX?????

Question folks....I have a new set of Heli Bars for my VFR that have not been mounted. I have seen several posts on this site about putting stock VFR bars on a Blackbird for a slightly more comfortable position. Has anybody tried putting Heli bars fro a VFR on a Blackbird? Wondering if this will work and give an even more comfortable position.

I would imagine the brake lines won't reach. I have the VFR bars on mine and they're real close to the limit as it is. They're also plenty comfortable. If you need some thing higher and more comfortable, start thinking about a VTX.

I believe that there aer some posts related to the topic of using both the helibars and VFR clip ons. Not sure if they had to do any line extending.
    Search the forum for
Bars and you may find something there.

Different year VFR's had different fork tube diameters, 41 and 43mm FWIW.

VTEC bars from 02 and up work, I have them on my bike.
Click the search button: VFR bars still might be some pictures in there.

I have the VFR clipons as well. They work great and look great on the bike. You don't have to extend cables for just the VFR clip ons. They look stock on the bike.

Re: VFR Heli bars on an XX?????

I actually run Gen Mar Risers under my VFR bars... no probs with either lines. X1 Rider is right, go with 6th gen VFR bars. VFR bars are higher and sit back further than the CBR bars...

I had mine from my old '02 VFR since I was running Heli's at the time of my accident... I didn't really notice much of a difference between the Heli's and VFR/Gen Mar combo to be quite honest. I suspect the Heli's might be a tad closer but not all that much... for the money I should have just stuck with the Gen Mars, but they work well on the Bird... my 2 cents.

Re: VFR Heli bars on an XX?????

I had the same question and can’t find a clear answer after running some searches…doesn’t look like there was a definite answer here either. I’m looking at 3 different options…

Helibars for the XX – pn HB01025
    CBR1100XX (1997-2007) | HeliBars

    OEM VFR800 (‘02+) bars

    Helibars for the VFR800 (‘02+) – pn HB01003
    VFR800 (2002-2009) | HeliBars

I know the first 2 will work just fine, but will the VFR800 helibars be too much for the stock lines?

I can’t find the OEM VFR bars any cheaper than the helibars for the XX. Is there much of a difference between the 2 setups?

    Thanks!

Re: VFR Heli bars on an XX?????

I have the VFR bars on my XX. I have seen Heli's on several bikes. They appear to be about the same as far as the amount of rise. The VFR bars look stock on the bike and IMO a lot better than the Heli's. The Heli's are fine but they look like a bolt on part to me. For that reason I would go with the VFR bars. Heck that's what I did. The VFR bars will work with the the current stock lines. I would assume that the stock lines would work with the Heli's. I think Canadian Bird has the Heli's so you may want to ask him to be sure or perhaps someone else with the Helis would know. Helvet used to have a nice comparison with photos of different bar riser set ups. It was in a thread called BARS from what I can recall if you want to try a search for it.

With the VFR bars it helps to cut one of the locking tabs on the master cylinders to allow the lines to rotate into a better downward position when installing the VFR bars. I have a set of instructions somewhere so if you get the VFR bars let me know and I'll forward them to you.

Re: VFR Heli bars on an XX?????

This answer IS definitive, VFR 800 Helibars will not fit on a bird without major modification, stock VFR bars are higher, rearwards and wider than stock BB bars, thats why we use them. Helibars designed for a VFR are higher, rearwards and wider again than VFR stock bars therefore when fitted to a BB the hydraulic lines (brake and clutch) are too short to reach, beleive me! I just tried and am now in the process of returning my VFR helis to the states for exchange to a BB fitting. I dont mind admitting my foolishness if it stops a fellow bird owmer making the same mistake.

I'm after a set of VFR Heli bars for my black bird, all you have to do is get longer hoses.

This is an older pic of my cockpit. I put Heli bars on as soon as I ordered my Bird. No issues with installation. Since then I installed steel lines all round. Still, no issues with that installation. Goodgridge lines from Jaws.
