Why could my gas milage be so low?

I am down to a 1/4 tank left and I only have 110 mi. on my bike. Anyone have any ideas? Possible fuel leak or too rich of jets? Most of my driving is around 65 mph. I am no heavy on the throttle. Or can I only expect to get 30 or so miles per gallon? Thanks.

was it "tippy top" full when you started? most of us get a little over 200 miles per tank...unless your sprockets were changed for more torque...

Mine depends on my driving habits. I get 40mpg on pure freeway riding. Around town I average around 35-38. It really depends on my mood throughout the tank. If I'm riding hard my mileage goes down towards 30.
Off topic, we call it mileage. What does the rest of the world call it? Kilometerage? |

It's still milage but it's km per litre. Then we convert it in our heads.

Tire pressures will make a huge difference. There are, of course, a lot of other variables--such as different brands of fuel, plugs and air filter serviced on schedule, winds----who knows? Tires pressure has caused me the biggest change in mileage. By the way, it's a '97 and I don't ever recall getting over 35 MPG. Happy trails kle

How often should I think about changing my plugs?

I have the fuel injected model too and mine is just as bad, if not worst. I'm gonna change the plugs this weekend, and I have a K&N filter to put in.

Only use my '07 for commuting and the best I've done so far out of a tank is 18.8 klms per litre.
FYI: 3.78 Litres = 1 US Gallon
and 1.6 klms = 1 mile ................................ The rest is up to you !

So far I am getting around 36mpg with the average riding and riding hard in the mix. 30mpg?? Run a couple tanks through your Bird to be sure and check your sprocket setup. If you are running a 16 tooth up front or anything higher than the 45 tooth in the rear will drop your mileage. Jet kits as well will drop you a little.

Completed a 298 mile trip from ny to va last night. Topped off before I left, had to fill up twice, and arrived with 1/2 tank. If one of our mathematicians would like to take a stab at my fuel economy I'd appreciate it. I averaged about 85 mph for the most part when I wasn't stuck in traffic on the nj turnpike!
btw--gotta make the trip back now in the wet.

You said that you filled up twice but that still doesn't tell us how much went in as the assumption is made that you did not use all of the 23 litres that the tank holds.

My apologies sir. The assumption is mostly correct. Last fuel bar was blinking each time, including the first, that I filled her up.

OK Here goes ...........
Assumptions using mine as an example (tank is 23 litres) and Honda's specifications on blinking reserve LED.
Mine flashes with about 4 litres left (ie used 19 litres)
298 miles using (2 x 19 L)+9.5 L=47.5 litres = 12.5 gallons
ie 298 mile using 12.5 gallons = 23.8 mpg
Man ! you must have been hard on the throttle !
These figures are very rough as I still don't know the exact amount of fuel you actually used !

Not to steal the thread--this may be useful Yeah, I pushed it every chance I got, averaged 85-90 when I could, pushed 100+ several times along the way. Still seems a bit much huh?

Yes! I've changed the spark plugs, oil, and K&N air filter,(old filter was Filty and black!) and today I've done 300 Km, before the light started to flicker on and off. Then I filled up , and only used 17 litres! Last fall I would only get about 225-230km to the flashing light. Big jump!

I, and others, get 44 mpg because we are commuters doing 130 kph (85 mph) without hard acceleration and braking !
