Finally got her on the road! Here's a summary: Arrived at shop and she was waiting for me, paint job complete (started w/front cowl, tank, and right side fairing, but had to paint the whole bike because it was not 95% stock color as promised, but hey...), started her up, and the deep roar of those old Two Bros. was like music! I did a once around to check everything and realized that I'd left the plates back in the cage!! Determined not to be denied any longer, I made the decision to make the 10 min trip back to the cage on the Bird anyways. First I had to go seven city blocks in the opposite direction to fill up at the gas station. As I pulled out, I immediately noticed the higher riding position than I'm used to, which is great; that's what I was after. I had the 6mm shim (thanxx John!) installed when she was being worked on. So there I was, new (to me) bike that I'd never ridden, more cc's than I've ever twisted the throttle on, no plates, and an anticipation that had been building up for weeks, so all of my senses, needless to say, were at a super-heightened level. I was aware of EVERYTHING!!--sorry for that little build-up, there's no climax--So I make it back, to the cage, didn't see one police car (good karma), put the plates on, and went to get it inspected. I then rode about 15 mins to the local beach, where there is a huge, empty parking lot (Orchard Beach in the Bronx, for those in the know), to practice maneuvers and get a feel for this baby. Went over all the usual requisites I could think of, swerving, quick stops from speed, clutch management, etc. (no stunts, are you kidding me?!?)After an hour or so, my only thought was--This is it!! This is what i've been after my whole life!!--ok, maybe not my whole life, but for the last 2 years fer shure! I, like many others before me, LOVE THIS BIKE!!! It was well worth the wait! I feel official now. I haven't stopped smiling yet!!
Alas, I was so enamored with my new girl, I didn't even think of taking any pics. The very next time the sun comes out, which looks like Tues or Weds, I'll show ya what she looks like now...

Don't mean to make you guys feel bad but I had hell puttin my lid on my sun burned bald head today. Ouch!! I was mowing the yard and washed my truck yesterday but forgot about the ole hat trick I learned some years ago when my hair was thinning.
I am happy to finally hear about you guys up North finally getting out and finally riding. Spring is here down South and all you guys should up and going the next couple of weeks.
Good story by the way!!!

As promised!! Here's what she looked like when I got her on the road again. Pics DO NOT do her justice. I ain't no photographer. After the paint job I added custom gold chromed decals. Still missing a couple on her fanny. Now that I'm basically "cashed-out", I'm lookin to do a few cosmetic mods before we head down to Myrtle Beach next month. Was thinkin smoked double bubble, gold levers, gold fairing bolts and maybe them Pilot Power 2's. Going for a red and gold theme. Whaddayathink?

if you're ever in the area dude, we'll definitely hit the strip and turn all the heads.

Did I mention that I love this bike?? ok, I have a confession--Since I took my first ride I've been kinda pussyfootin around with her. Yeah, I can say I've been tryin to get used to the new feel but...I just haven't really been puttin her through her paces yet. UNTIL THIS WEEKEND!! Rode up to West Point, NY and you guys have been sooooo right! 85 mph does feel like 50. Between 85-100 IS her sweet spot! I can almost read a book at that speed--well, you get the picture. And 120?? Effortless!!! Only now, am I beginning to understand the true, power of the dark side. Intoxicating. And that's all I have to say about that.

The Blackbird is a legal drug! You see people on it and having a good time. Then you want on it. Then you get on it and its better then you thought.
HOOKED!!

Er... legal drug? Over 3000 rpm in top gear and it's anything but! Especially back home in England, with its cameras, radar traps and bike cops
Good thing for us Singapore bikers that Malaysia is just over the bridge.
The highways are long and wide.. and the lawmen in Malaysia are few and far between. If you ever do get caught I hear you can pay a small "fine" on the spot... ahem |

Hi guys - new to the forum.
I took my new bike (06) out for the first time on sunday down Aucklands main HWY. It was my first ride on any bike since 2004. Back then i sold my ZX-6R 'cause it got boring. Riding in the rain took it's toll on my enthusiasm. Now 2 days after my return to riding, my face is still sore from grinning.
It has more power than anything i have ever had the pleasure of riding in the past, and that includes a GSXR1000 that a mate lent me.
Anyway i plan to tour the south island next summer, NZ is way prettier than back home in Australia.
