Well not much to go before I do the licence so what I need is some bit of gear that lets me know when I am over the limit, speed wise. The bit of gear has to be as simple as me, just a button to push when you get to the correct speed as well as the same button activating a light that flashes or whatever, a month to go before I am fifty and it would be great if I still had my ticket.
My Regards from the land down under

Hmm, well that would be difficult to put together because it would need to sample your speed instead of your rpm. Now, what you could do is get a programable shift light. Then adjust it to flash at the rpm that is at the speed you want to be at.

ie, if you want it to tell you when you get to 100km/h. If you are usually in 5th, and the rpm is 3500 then set the shift light to blink at 3600 or something like that.

It'd get you by. Second to that, most GPS's will vocally let you know when you are past a certain predermined speed point. You could install that an a audio system (unless you have both already).

If you wanted to get really fancy, you could do something with rare earth magnets right at the speedo. One on the actual needle, one behind the face. When the connect is made, it completes a circuit that activates a red light. Only thing is, if you were really honking it, it wouldn't last long. You might want to PM "beyonwacko". He's a genious with LED's and lighting and such, he might have an idea- and, like the shifter light thing above, he may have a different idea with something from a racer's view- he drag's.

I'm no expert here but this should work...

If you have a digital speedo then you should be able to setup a circuit that counts the pulses from the speedo wire and turns on a LED. When you reach X pulses per second that will equal X speed(would only work in the gear it was setup for). You would need a chip to count the pulses and triger the LED.

Sorry it's so general but I haven't done any circuit design in a long time.

What about the device that lights a red led in your helmet that attaches to radar detectors? could that be jury-rigged into the gps warning signal?
