where on earth did you find a road to maintain that speed, you would need at least 55kms of road and the concentration needed to do that,i find that unbelievable , ive taken my bike to speedo indicated 285 but not for long.i reckon thats crap

i am sure there would be roads in NSW where this could be done, i held mine for close to 5 minutes on a ride waay out west when my bike was about 6 months old and that was enough for me, proved it could do it and stay there, also have to keep in mind that indicated 299 is going to be closer to a real 285. Now days i keep my 300 for the straight at Phillip Island and would vary rarely see more than $1.60 on the road in very selected areas.

i just find it hard to believe that someone could maintain the level of concentration needed at that speed for 10mins.
its quite doable and you dont have to be an idiot, im sure you have broken the speed limit and whats really is the difference between 20 over or 200 over, its all illeagal
regularly out of harms way, only to myself ,the main difference between 20 over & 200 over speaks for itself i think

I'll be the first to admit I tend to "speed" a bit on my bird! 160-170 mph. But one day I happen to notice the speed rating on my tires. That will get your attention!! I had tires rated at 145mph. SO, I bought new tires with a higher speed rating. Metzeler Sportec M-1. Think about that the next time you blast off.

With stock gearing the Bird could go faster if it had more engine. However the blackbird is underpowered to push redline in top gear. Horsepower is what is needed at the top of the powerband to push the bike faster. I dropped one tooth in the front and went up one in the rear recently and haven't had a chance to ring her out like this. But I am anxious to see if she'll pull redline in top gear now and I'm going to take the GPS along to report how fast I'm going. I just need the weather to cooperate a bit.

Recorded 168 mph with a GPS last summer. I still had more rpm's to go but ran out of road. Maybe next summer I'll try it again.

I had mine topped off at 146 mph indicated. This was back in 05. The bike was fresh out of the crate and I was absolutely amazed cuz I hadn't been on a bike for twenty years. Fathers Day weekend same year I was chasing a Mercedes Benz 4Matic on Interstate 91 in Vermont for 15 miles at speeds between 125 and 135 mph. I felt like I was riding a jet. One minute I was looking into valley the next minute I was blasting through. I finally backed off cuz there was a light rain coming down.

I have just fitted a 6mm shim on my bird, and whilst appreciating the way it turns I figured there must be a downside somewhere. I guess this is it.
Is it a problem when braking at high speeds?
PS. The most I got the bird up to is maybe 240, on track. Too scared to lose my licence to do it on the roads, but this is probably irrelevant as I've gone fast enough to kiss it goodbye anyhow.
And yes at 240 is was very very stable, I'd take it up further without any fear, if I had more road down the straight ...
And Flogsalot, yes such roads to exist in Australia. For what it's worth I have driven at some 240 Km/h+ in Europe for hours on end; I agree it does take more concentration, but it's certainly feasible, we're talking 10 minutes at 290, not hours.

260kmh indicated, still pulling STRONG (but ran out of road). It wasn't even an attempt to reach the top speed, I just had to show a friend with his puny Ninja 900 what the BB is all about
