Hey guys.

Just wanted to ask how far is the real speed off the indicated one? Like would it be showing eg. 110 when we're really doing 100 etc?

And a question for Aussies: How much tplerance do fixed speed cameras give us these days?? haha

PS: What other state puts a second cam 250m away from the first, pointing in the same direction?! No other! Looove the NSW

Hiya Romus,
1- Travelled from Gold Coast to Sunshine Coast, which has a couple of speedo check postings and my speedo '07 'Bird was right on the nose at the 5 Klm mark.
2- A good friend of ours is a traffic policeman and has said to me on numerous occasions that no copper will pull you over for doing 88 kph in a 80 kph zone. Said people who have contested this in court in the past have had their complaint upheld with no convictions. It would seem that the police radars have an uncertainty of about 10% (this is all off the record, of course)
Hope this helps

Hey mate, thanks for the quick reply.

Yeh I know cops won't, some HWP coppers I'm still friends with won't bother for anything under 15kmh over the limit. But this is a fixed camera, and I don't know what tolerances they've got. Used to be 10kmh but there was talk that they took that down to 0. I did 107 in 100 so it's not too bad but still double demerits would suck...

Not too sure about the fixed Kodak Moments but will let you know if I find out anything. I'm at my friend's BBQ for New Years Eve and will drill him for info while he is under the influence

PS. 250 m apart ??? ... They must need new pursuit cars

Haha thanks

Yea it's weird. They got two bus lane cams always close to one another but these two were speed cams. And I never normally use the freeway so didn't expect another.

Down South our fixed cameras give a tolerance of 2kph. Generally they get set at around the 7kph mark - ie in a 60kph zone, camera set to trigger at 67 and in a 100 zone camera will get you at 107kph. $165.00 at one demerit point thank you very much. Lucky the camera cars usually stand out like dogs balls. Some of the cars are so well known that the get egged whilst they are driving.

We have the rule down here that a second camera is not to be mounted within 7 km's of another one. If this happens (and you know about it), the fine is automatically dismissed.

I have checked my speedo against my GPS. Indicated 100 on speedo - 95 on GPS. Fairly constant 5kph difference from 60 - 100. From 110 the difference grows. 200 on speedo = 183 on GPS. At 270 I was too busy watching for wildlife and cars in driveways (why do farm driveways always have trees blocking their view??)

Think I'll do some research on a Speedo Healer.

Stock speedos are generally 6.25% off. A Speedohealer was the best purchase I've made

Oh thanks, guys! I asked around today, these two cams seem to the a point to point, one of few around NSW on trial by RTA, a lot better known to you guys down south. I THINK I didn't go faster than 107 so seeing it's point to point, the average would be lower, except theyre close to one another... don't know, wait and see.

270? Hah! I did 239 once and I ran out of road. And speaking of 'wildlife', a young horse and I scared the shit out of each other today. I've seen it wasnt within the fence so I slowed down. Sure enough it ran onto the road and was running away from me at 15kmh or whatever. I tried to go wide arond, and it would run to the same side and 'block me' haha. I managed to trick it and pass, poor guy was really scared... wouldnt wanna see him graze on the side of the road at 240

Sounds a bit like a time I had in FNQ. Coming back to Cairns from Cooktown along the "highway" in the car. 1 sheep on the road, 3 on the left, flock on the right. I slowed down & hit the horn to wake the dozy bugger up. It looked around, saw me, saw the 3 on the left & ran off to join them. The rest of the flock on the right, seeing the one from the road heading the other way ALL then proceeded to run across the road infront of me...

Where are these point to point cameras? I'm familiar with bus lane cameras, as there are a string of them along the GWH from Parramatta to Mays Hill, but they're ok as we're allowed use bus lanes in NSW. And as far as I know, cameras in NSW have a 10% tolerance, as someone I know was done by one of them for 67 in a 60 zone. But that was a few years ago.

oh yes, as to the original question, my '98 was at 110 when it indicated 120. I use that as a general rule of thumb now & haven't been hassled at all yet... And following traffic through well known cameras generally sees 84 past an 80 camera. No fines yet received.

Well even if I do get done it'd be my first speeding offence ever (no, not a good boy, just lucky heh) so shouldn't be too hard to "Sect. 10" it.

The cameras are on the F3 Freeway. Can't tell you exactly where 'coz I usually use the old road but it wasn't too far from Hornsby, heading northbound.

Hehe that's funny with the sheep, worth keeping in mind probably as I do ride the backroads a fair bit and see sheep often, but never occured to me that a whole flock could follow a single one heh.
