    Best paint for alt' cover?

I wiped the old girl over today, noticed though that the alt' cover looks cruddier than I recall...any ideas on a chip resistant black satin paint suitable or will any HR paint do?

Was that heat resistant or not? I'm not even sure how hot it gets?!

The problem we have in the UK (yes another) is that the alternator cover suffers from very quick temperature changes.
The cover does get far too hot to touch and then we hit a puddle and instant 'water cooling'. Whilst the black paint holds out well the later 'gold' will fall off (lower front edge where the stator ring sits) nearly always goes first.

Black Ice and snow on the sides of the road and on it as well, Riding thru icy puddles, I dont see any difference, Hahaha
Im in Melbourne Duck, Our winters are similar to Scotlands with out the snow,
It comes straight up from Antartica, Including the ice cubes, And screaming winds,
Only our summers are stinking hot,
Another 6 weeks and I will be skiing here in the hills,

That's what I thought, the alternator cover gets very hot.
Auto shops should recommend the correct hr paint required.

I did mine in black hammerite. I did my centre and side stands in the same too and they look much better. I also removed the black smudge I left on the bodywork later!

    .....,
Yes silly Duck, the Australian PR dept does such a good job in promoting the sunshine and the great lifestyle I forgot there is 'another side', thanks for putting me straight deadman

Anyway having inspected the cover on ziplex's bike yesterday the paint has come away in areas that normally stay intact. Should rub down and come up nicely. Since a rattle can of heat resistant paint (one that doesn't rely on heat cycles to bake it hard) costs little/nothing more than 'normal' paint I suggested that was the way to go ....

Its not a very clear piccy but thats done in spray can enamel quick dry paint, Under the road grime,
Ive only done it once, None of it has peeled off,
I did it when I broke my shoulder, The repair hole in the case, So its 39,000 kays ago,

If the prep wasnt done properly, Sanded down to take the paint, It will fall off, It has to be very clean before painting,
But spray pack heat paint will do too,

Hammerite, Is that the one that dries with crinkles in it, That would look good on the case,
It looks a bit like Carbon fibre panels, Comes in a lot of colours,

Those Mongrels up north and their year round 30 C, Give us a bad name down here in the south, -4 C is not bloody hot, But our summer is 45 + C, Hahahaha

that's the suff, gives a finish as though it has been gently tapped with round end of a ball pein hammer ..... although there is also Smoothrite which is, wait for it ...... smooth. Don't know if they do a matt finish which is what ziplex wants.

That said I now 'cheat' since I can powdercoat the covers, so I have a choice of every RAL colour ..... and I have a matching pair in a very high gloss black for going on Duck when I get round to it! Recovered from a couple of really old scabby items that I acquired for next to nothing on Ebay!

Re: Best paint for alt' cover?

    In my Avatar,
Those yellow lines on the road mean I am above the snow line, Every where else here are white lines, Thats the Reefton Spur I am parked on, About 70 Kays in length, About 40 miles,
In winter it has Black Ice and Snow on it, Its 10 Kays from Lake Mountain Ski Resort by road, ,Which is also a great twisty road, Bloody Tar melts in summer tho, Like riding in Slush,
Its open all year round, The Reefton Spur, The road to Lake Mountain is closed due to snow,
Where I am parked is about 100 kays from my place, 60 miles, And great roads all the way, Round trip from my place and coming back over The Blackspur about 400 Kays,

I take my learner riders thru there as a Mentor, One on One, They learn to ride, fast, They are not going very fast, Very Boring for me, But it does make them capable riders,
One learner fell off in the gutter right in front of me going round a bend, Target fixation, 30 KPH and I missed it, Totally, I was looking at the clouds, Bored Shitless, I looked down the road and there she was laying in the gutter, Already stopped, Shit, She;s had a bingle, Hahahaha, Small bruise on her bum, That was it,
Its great when they fall off, I get rid of their fear of death when their riding, You havent died, Your not in hospital, You would have more injurys if you just fell over walking, And that little bruise isnt worth mentioning, Hahaha The bikes got a couple of scratches on it, They are very relaxed after that,

First months I had my Moped, My Silver Bird, I nearly lost it in Black Ice coming thru there, Just near where I am parked, Titus Arsicus, Ice is Deadly,
A lot of the roads I ride on here in summer are closed during winter due to snowfalls, They become Ski Fields,
Some of our roads are just straight out bloody dangerous, The sun dont shine on the road enough, So It gets a green slimy moss growing on it,
It has the same characteristics as Black Ice and is just as slippery, But at least we can see the Green slime, And ride in the car tracks,

Mt Donna Buang, 40 kays from my place, Grouse bike road, I wont go on it even in summer now, It has miles of that bloody green slime, and its allway cold and damp,

I getting piccys on FB from Colin on the Bird Meet up in Longwellan Wales, They had a good roll up there of Birds,

Thanks for suggestions, rubbed down ready so will order something up from Amazon or the like and get masking. I have got a can of that 'crinkle' finish black paint sat idle in the cupboard but ideally want a smooth satin/matt finish.

Years back when my girls were little I drove my GPZ900 to work in all weathers, through some really nasty winter's, can remember sitting on the bike early in the dark mornings and the saddle was stiff as a board and the clocks white with ice. The roads where we lived rarely got gritted as we were well away from the main road, it was a living hell just to travel 1/4 mile without falling off but somehow I didn't. One not too steep hill I'd ride down with my heart in my mouth and arse clenched. Realistically I needed the car but it would of taken too long to get home in order to get my Mrs to work on time (just) in the heart of the city, (she didn't drive at the time), then I'd look after the kids until I picked her up later in the evening....done that for 4 years, couldn't do it now for sure be it kids or ice/snow!
