    Time to say goodbye

A month ago I was the meat in a road rage sandwich - somebody took exception to my headlight and slammed on his brakes in a position on the road where I had no escape. I just managed to stop in time, but unfortunately the car behind me wasn't able to. The bird was written off. I can't go without riding, so I bought a new bike - alas, not a bird....

I will have some accessories for sale for the Australian members (these have already been listed on FB Aussie Blackbird riders) and will post them up shortly.

Here are some before and after pics...IMG_3227_Moment.jpgIMG_3225_Moment.jpgIMG_3228_Moment.jpgIMG_3229_Moment.jpgIMG_3226_Moment.jpgIMG_3257_Moment.jpgIMG_3259_Moment (2).jpgIMG_3256_Moment.jpg

    Re: Time to say goodbye

Sad day indeed, whilst I seem to have been 'here' for ever I remember you welcoming me to the forum!

I assume since you haven't mentioned any you didn't sustain any injuries? Don't want to add to the wrist problems!

    Anyway,
Here are some before and after pics...
am I correct in assuming you were carrying your camera at the time and the photos also got broken

I was taken by ambulance to the Alfred Hospital (the major trauma centre here) and spent a couple of days under cervical and lumbar spinal precautions. It took three days for my pancreas to settle down and all blood test results to return to "normal". Apart from a stiff and sore back, I am pretty much recovered.

    Re: Time to say goodbye

The bike will be going under the hammer at Manheim Auctions very soon. If any Aussies are interested, just be warned - sub frame and nose cone bracket are bent, front suspension needs to be rebuilt (aftermarket items removed, stock internals replaced with wrong size spacers), and there is something horribly wrong with the frame/front end. I rode the bike for 100 metres and did not feel safe - uncontrolled wobbling at slow speed (and this was before suspension was changed back). Engine has a knock in it.

Gulp that sounds like an uncomfortable and anxious couple of days! Glad to read that you have made a better return to health than the Bird ever will.

From the way you have described the sandwich I wouldn't be surprised if either the headstock has been cracked or the pickup point for the dog bone has taken a pounding.

Anyway onto brighter things, that RR looks tasty, covered any miles on it yet?

    Re: Time to say goodbye

Sorry to hear Nutter , I wish you well.
There seems to be lots of aggression towards bike riders lately , as in closing up lanes and purposely blocking bikes and cutting off.
My mate who rides to work expressed to me a similar thing happen to him yesterday whilst leaving work to go home approx, 18:00 (it's dark by then), on his GTR 1400.
Headlight related again, the guy challenged him to a fight ,what is annoying there are car drivers who are already prejudiced and show hatred towards bikes , and all they need is a reason .He expressed to me it comes in waves and sometimes catches him by surprise.

    Re: Time to say goodbye

Sorry to hear the news Nutter, but the S1000 will be a nice way to get over it. Sounds like Aussies have a real problem with car drivers.

    Re: Time to say goodbye

    glad to hear you're ok.

any idea of what, if any, sanctions the driver who caused all this may face?

here, the ama (american motorcyclists association) has been pushing for legislation to stiffen up penalties for such negligence or malice...

can I just say there's no requirement to leave just because you no longer own a bird.
