Well it finally happened. Taking an early ride yeaterday after getting a pair of caliber insulated pants to go with my drax jacket I was enjoying a trip up the interstate at 40deg. I got off in athens off I-65 and up 72 on my way home I passed some trailer trucks afterbeing blown around behid them. I hate being slapped around behind deisels. Anyways I passed them and when I saw a dodgecharger state trooper coming at me, he had his lights on, did a u-turn in front of me and got right up my ass. I was shocked at his technique to nab me and instead of running him for his excitement I just casualy pulled into a lot and stopped. This has been the stop of the year I guess for him. Although he was nice and calm he still wrote the ticket. 96 in a 60. I'm not sure what it will cost but you know how we like to gun our birds. We chatted a bit about the high speed for these bikes nowadays. And he was surprised when I told him Ive hit 180 a few times. To everyone that has gotten away from the blue lights on our birds, they will get us once. I hope not twice. But this one shocked even me and there was nowhere for me to go. It was bound to happen as I've just finished my mods and getting it just the way I wanted it. Happy riding folks and be careful around the cops.

Perhaps admitting to hitting 180 was not the wisest thing to do. I'm just sayin... |

Ah it was no biggie... we all hit mach speeds once in awhile. I'm sure he's had that dodge charger at top speed the way he nabbed my ass.

I have decided that I am going to go that route on all future tickets. I have one in the works right now.......

Do you have traffic school in TN? Here in Kentucky, we get on freebie a year. If not, I'm sure a lawyer could get it reduced to 70 in a 60. I'm sure that's less points than 96 in a 60. Around here, that's called reckless op.!!! |

I got popped for 160 in a 70 a few years ago. I got a lawyer and went to court for a "probable cause hearing". The cop lied all the way through his testimony and my lawyer moved for a dismisal on "lack of probable cause" grounds. The judge denied the motion and added that his court was not the place for a probable cause hearing. My attorney ordered a tape of the transcript and gave it to me for use in the trial.
The day of the trial we went to court. When my case was called, the prosecutor dropped the charges and I walked out a free man with no fine or points.
Was I doing 160 on that night? As my attorney pointed out, no cop could ever start from a complete stop and keep a bike doing 160 in sight. After all his top speed was only 120 and he had to merge into traffic.
The moral of the story: Always retain an attorney. You never know what he might think of to get you out of a bad situation. |

I got pulled over on the bird a few weeks ago. The state trooper said he was surprised that I pulled over, he expected me to run. I told him I stopped because I was not speeding (for once) and that if I wanted to run then HE would have not caught me. His 4 partners down the road probably would have but not him.
That didn't piss him off too much because he only gave me a warning. He said he never got a radar reading on me.
Must be that new wax I'm using?

Well, I must confess, I've had one ticket in the last seven years of riding. He pulled me and the other car I was "toying" with but he waved the car on. He tagged me from the opposite side of the highway from a 1000 metres away. Said he only had his "gun" on me. Because I didn't give him "attitude" he reduced the speed and I payed it the next day. He asked me what the speed was on that section of highway, a two lane sweeper through the canyon, and I said 110 kph. He informed me that it was 90 and posted. I was doing about 140 kph ish. It cost me $90 odd bucks and I chaulked it up to experience. Now I have my 9500i and I have a pretty good knowledge where the leos are in my neighbourhood. Mostly RCMP on the highways. Radar seems to work better in the States and it saved me many times this summer. However, all this being said, it might have been that king size can or Rock Star I had for breaky. Eventually we all get caught it's how we deal with it that's different. Cheers

My last ticket on the Bird was 82 in a 55, reduced to 69 in a 55 because I told the state trooper he had really nice penmanship! Plus, I told him I was depressed and just blowing out the cob webs. I have seen 130 mph on that road before however!
The best thing to do is stop, take your ticket and roll on. No sense endangering your life trying to outrun a cop. Never forget the Motorola Radio and all his friends that would love to pounce on a filthy, rotten speeder.
By the way 160 mph = .2 mach!
