I found that out yesterday while riding my 2001 down the freeway. I had been out riding and was going over an overpass to get on the freeway, when I saw a sport bike going down the freeway in the same direction I was headed. Since I am still a wild ass at 55 I couldn't resist the urge to catch up. And this guy was going pretty fast so it took me a few minutes. Wasn't long before I was next to the nemesis. (Hayabusa).
We played a little bit and then had a roll on from about 120 mph on. My bike was actully ahead of the busa at 160 mph, but then I forgot I was still in 5th gear and he slowly walked away. When we started going up the grapevine, it was all over, he couldn't or didn't want to keep up.
I gotta cut that shit out.

How the HELL did you live to hit 55! One for our side but you must have to sit pretty far back in the seat with grapes like that. |

I am 64 and have pushed my BB to 152 but would go faster if we had decent roads here in Florida like I had when I lived in New Mexico. I am really tired of hearing how fast a busa is and reading about them. I would really like to find one around here and give it a try. Hard to imagine any bike having harder acceleration than a Blackbird.

Managed to hold 140 (just over 220 km/h) a few times on the way back from work today. It's a 20-minute ride to work and then back on a four-lane highway - best moments of the day. My therapy, so I don't have to waste money on shrinks.
I'm 61 and still running the engine in. But I hope to match DanS's 160 this year after the next oil change and tune up.
Hey, DanS, I might spend some months in California from next July on. If I do I'll be looking to you to tell me where I can open up the cbr... I'd like to bring it over with me, but don't know about the red tape yet.
Cheers

OH boy, we will have to look up Warchild and go to Nevada. I think he has some long lonely roads where crusing at 140 is doable for long periods of time. Death valley in California is another spot where you can wind it out.

I looked at the specs for number of liter bikes going from 60-80 and most were in the high two second range. I am not sure what gear they were in, but the other day I did a few 60-80mph roll ons and roughly counted the seconds and it doesn't take almost three seconds for my bird to go from 60-80 in third gear. It was more like almost two seconds.

Ummm
Maybe all you busa beaters need to stop dreaming lol
IT's the rider not the bike...
Put the same rider on the bikes... sorry the busa wins....
Doubt me ? GO watch the Mach 1 video where they put the XX, busa,zx-11,and R1 to the test... ALthough the XX DID get the vote for best bike...

There has been several tests of the bird vs the busa. With the same experienced pilot for both, the busa will win every time if they are both stock bikes. Now, in my opinion, the bird is the better choice because of the technology that is already there. A stock Hayabusa weighs about 473 lbs and puts out about 156 hp with it's 1340cc engine. A stock bird weighs about 492 lbs and puts out about 135 hp with it's 1137cc engine. Now, with that being said, the stock hayabusa, in one test, did the 1/4 mile in 9.98. With the same pilot on the same track at the same time of day, the blackbird did the 1/4 mile in 10.54. The busa is lighter, has a bigger engine, and puts out more hp....of course it is faster. But, with the above numbers, you would think the busa would be more ahead of the bird than it is. That just shows how efficient the bird is with what it has to work with. Hayabusa is Japanese for "Falcon", which is a bird that is known to eat blackbirds in the wild. So, it is obvious that Suzuki made the busa simply to beat the bird. That is why I love the bird, it has tons of potential.

Let's see - BB with +100 lbs and -30 hp compared to a liter bike. I'm not talking about road racing on the street, I'm talking about straight line acceleration. As far as getting a clue and learning to ride, you're an idiot if you do your road racing on the street. I ride mountain canyons almost every day I ride, and I see idiots who think they're Valentino Rossi every day in the summer. Sooner or later, they're getting scraped up off the road....
I'm not knocking the BB, it's a great bike and a much better bike for me than a race bike.

Some years of the R1 were not particularly fast. They've gone to a 4 valve head after a number of years with the 5 valve (and getting spanked by the other manufacturers).

I believe the 'bird can take an R1 but he thinks the R1 would take the 'bird no contest. So, I am just looking for some actual test results.
