    Re: Breakdown cover ?

If you write up with Total Club you get 3 weeks of insurance if you fill up your bike at a Total petrol station. My brother needed it in Italy and they towed the bike to the nearest workshop.
Bikes and wives . . . always a difficult topic. My Bird hasn't complained yet about my wife, so she can stay for the time being . . .

    Re: Breakdown cover ?

I'm in the RAC and get extra cover for Europe with recovery and onward or return travel included. The top cover is £8.55 per day but it'll cost £3 per mile to get your bike home in the UK, wouldn't like to guess how much the French are going to want just to get you to the Ferry.

    Re: Breakdown cover ?

Geoff, had the same problem with my VFR (2000). Look on the Eurotunnel site. Hidden away is insurance breakdown and recovery for vehicles including bikes with no age limit. RAC quoted me £245, Eurotunnel was £95 for the same cover. Strangely it was underwritten by the RAC! Seems like bikes over 15 yrs old are hard to get cover including the most important get the bike home option. My present insurer, MCE say they will for a premium of £65. We will see when i get the details confirmed in black and white.
The Bird and the VFR are some of the most reliable bikes out there.

    Re: Breakdown cover ?

I have my insurance through Adrian Flux (bikesure) and they I have breakdown/recovery UK and Europe. They do breakdown cover even if you don't have your insurance with them. The age of Daily Bird is never discussed and I have used the breakdown cover in France before now, very efficient when I had a nasty puncture and needed a trailer to a tyre Co.
Worth checking the Ferry details as well, at one time they brought in an age limit as well and you couldn't take old bikes over the Channel with some companies! Brittany Ferries are fine, I always use them, they look after your bike well.

    Re: Breakdown cover ?

Just checked the Eurotunnel relevant page and they have changed the terms. Only covers cars up to 15 yrs old now but no mention of motorcycles.

Does that cover bikes of 15 yrs old and over and recovery back to the UK?

    Re: Breakdown cover ?

Thanks for all the comments ! I found a company who will do it.!! ETA insurance. Below is the cover I got for....£55.00 !! Result !!

Thank you for requesting a quote for ETA Single-Trip European Breakdown. You can retrieve your quote at any time.

Our fully comprehensive policy includes all of the following:

    • Short-term cover for up to 31 days
    • English-speaking helplines available 24/7
    • Roadside assistance and recovery
    • Overnight accommodation for all passengers
    • Car / motorbike hire up to £60 per day
    • Repatriation if your vehicle can’t be fixed

Find out more information about what's covered under our Single-Trip European Breakdown.

Carole Nash will only offer roadside repair (1 Hour max) and take your broken bike 10 miles if they cant get it going. Also interestingly, Even if you're fully comp its only 3rd party whilst abroad !!

You can pay extra with most insurers but once again, the Over 15 year demon pops up !!!

    Ahh well sorted now

    thanks again

    Re: Breakdown cover ?

They seem OK to me, The wife TOLD me to go and buy a new bike if I couldn't get cover. but I did, so Betty Blackbird stays !! I hated the thought of another bike. I love my 186bhp (at the wheel) lol

    on the VFR/CBR1100XX reliability...

Buy yourself a 2 year old Ducati Adeyren - You'll get cover straight away!

You'd be more likely to need it than riding your 17 year old Honda

    Re: Breakdown cover ?

Ducati??? No thanks. As much as they are undoubtedly good bikes, they all look the bloody same! You can spot a Bird (and a VFR) at a 100 yards. Later Triumphs are the same, just a variation on a theme. I'm more then happy with my Bird thank you.
