Inexpensive front end stand plans for working on your bike
Here is a stand for all of you who want to be able to remove the front wheel off of your bike or other related work. I enhance the stand by installing split foam (the kind used to insulate hot water pipes) on the uprights to protect the bike's plastics in case of an accidental bump.
Making a Front-End Stand
And this is how you hang a bike off of it:

Note: I use ratchet straps and soft ties to hoist the bike up.
DO NOT HANG THE BIKE BY THE CLIP-ONS!

That seems like a neat idea. Rather inexpensive to fabricate as well. Thanks for posting that.

I realize this is a general disclaimer, but realistically the clip ons would have no problem holding the weight.
I won't get into the physics but just imagine the force caused by a 300lb guy doing an emergency stop with all his weight on the bars. It's going to be a lot more weight than the static weight of the bike hanging.
Just to be safe I wouldn't hang it from the ends of the clip ons

Re: Inexpensive front end stand plans for working on your bike
The strength of the bars is not the only issue, but, it would be very easy to deform the plastic throttle tube, Dual Star heater elements, certain types of soft grips, etc,if you hang them by the clip ons. In addition, the clip ons are designed to support downward force, with the added safety of the upper triple clamp limiting any additional downward movement.
However,
When you hang the weight of the bike by the clip ons, the only thing that keeps them from slipping off the fork tubes are a couple of clamp bolts and thin wire snap rings. The potential for damage to the bike and personal injury increases considerably (particularly if you are tugging on the tire/calipers or applying torque to on the front wheel fasteners/axle), IMHO.
