Has anyone here got the Acumen Gear selector indicator on their bird ?? I'm continually looking for 7th gear and thought one of these may help me out..... This particular type looks the goods and comes in various LED colours. With the Plug and Go wiring loom ( This saves cutting and soldering ) it will run 200 bux here in Oz. If anyone has one can you tell me how the installtion went ? From the instructions it doesnt look to difficult but I've heard that before.......

I have one that works well on my '01 GL1800. However, I tried to install one on my '99 XX but I couldn't get it to work. Repeated calls with their tech support wizards were unsuccessful... One guy finally admitted that they were designed for "generic" motorcycle applications, and they'd never tried one on a XX, so they were uncertain of any issues. It wasn't a "plug & play" installation either - splicing was expected. They sent me another one (twice) but none of them worked on the 'Bird despite testing OK on a meter... of course it may have been all my fault - but I don't think so...
Edited to add: This was all a few years ago, so maybe things are different these days... Got linky?

I have a Datatool Gear Indicator, it is essentially the same thing as the Acumen. It wasn't plug and go but the wiring was pretty easy. I love it. I was always looking for 7th gear too. I got it on ebay for about $50 shipped. LINK
Here is a picture of it (I have since moved it down below the tachometer).

Thanks for the info Wockman. I was wondering where to mount the gear selector. How is it mounted where it is in the pic ?? I have a powerbronze screen and there is more room above the dash than the OEM screen. Did you use velcro or similar ?? Also where do you have it now. I'm interested in the different places that they can be mounted. Cheers

It is right in the center of the pict just above the tach. It is the red 0 (it is showing 0 for neutral) I used some 3M Dual Lock (really strong velcro type stuff) and it stayed put no problems.
Now it is below the tach, I'll see if I can find a newer shot of it and post another pict.
