I bought my 97 xx recently.
I have not really had a ride on the bike yet (riding it home from the license bureau does not count)
so tonite I took her for a spin
6 degrees c. 42 f
brrrrrrrr.
had to leave my helmet open a crack in order to avoid fogup.
(read very cold and dripping nose)
no I didn't ride in t shirt and shorts.
but wow I am frozen.
so cold the plastic fairing were creaking. (what wind chill factor)
Still a nice ride on the highways at midnite.
I have not posted any photos
I have some minor maintenance to do.
and will get the body compounded and polished.
I intend to ride the xx again even if it is cold, so
getting out the long johns, and all the cold weather stuff.
hmmmm maybe a skidoo suit, with electric defroster helmet might be able to extend the season till november.

Keep one thing in mind with all that cold weather riding that you are thinking about,,,,, cold tires don't stick too well. Be carefull and have fun!
WHen I first got my 01' ( in October 04' ) I kept on riding it until the temp' went down below 29 degrees F.
I'm so much happier that I now live in S. Florida now. That cold stuff sucks.

Thanks
when the temperature goes down this far you can feel it in the tires.
so yes I take it easy and at this temp the road is always cold.
Thanks for the heads up.
Where did you live before?
In my motorcycle drivers ed class, we also learnt about road compounds and tire grip.
Seems the best road compound for motorcycle tires is in Florida and seems they put crushed sea shells into the road compound and this gives tires super extra grip.
Here they put politicians promises into the road compound, so we get alot of potholes cracks and the roads are kinda slick. (I guess bs doesn't hold so good)

I just rode into work (05:00 MST) and I know where your coming from.....I picked a bad day to just wear my light gloves.
+1 to Beondwacko's cold tire/pavement comment,as I spun my rear doing a red line pull out on the highway 3 days ago going from 2nd into 3rd...but then again, if I had another 20hp I could spin it from 3rd to 4th as well

What are the best gloves to ride with that don't let cold get to your fingers.

my new favorite item of cold weather gear is the Aerostich windblocker fleece pants with full length side zippers. man these things are toasty. I wear them in place of my overpant liner. This morning it was a frosty 37ºF and my legs were even a little on the warm side when I arrived at work. Expensive but darn nice!

must be cold on the bridge yeesh my teeth are chattering just thinking of it.
I ordered some foggy masks today from Toronto, and got some other stuff for the cold but I guess we will have to stop once the snow starts. :-(
I was up in morin heights this weekend and snow on sunday.

So hey! Monsieurnet, I've been trying to find rinding buddies for a while now, I use to live in Halifax, all my friends have bikes, mostly Harley, couple have sportbikes, so they keep arrassing me about it...But anyway, it's much more fun when you're riding with people, so if you're around Montreal and riging, drop me a line. As long as it's not snowing of course!!

it is still fxxxing cold
it was a beatiful clear sunny day today but very cold.
So I took the bird out anyway and went for a ride in the laurentians.
(very slowly) it was 1 degree in montreal and about -4 in sauveur. 32 in mtls 27 in sauveur.
I wore a ski suit, with layers underneath.
boots were good and warm with wool socks
but fingers were cold brr.
any suggestions for really warm gloves, I am not interested in plugging in.
I have the tourmaster cold front, they are ok for cool weather and probably good in rain etc
but for real cold not so great my fingers were freezing.
anyway I guess this it is time to put the bird away soon.
mnet
so cold only one other guy on his moto today.
I ride on a really nice stretch of road called mille isles , it is about 20 miles 30k of freshly paved country road to morin heights with lots of curves. I took it pretty slow as they have started getting black ice and are already putting out the sand on some of the side roads.

Well you're not the only one freezing his _ss in MOntreal!! But my solutionn for the gloves is I wear two pairs! thin ones under and thick leather one for the top.
By the way that mille isles road is my favorite one! Especially since they have paved it! And to think that I'm going to snowboarding in Tremblant next weekend!
Cheers! Lache pas la patate!
