Popped out yesterday to pick up my newly colour coded boxes
Went to leave and need to jump her , otherwise runs fine.
Got home, went to go back out on Coke and dead as a dodo, bollocks flat battery, reckon the alarm had drained it (been sat for about 2 and a bit weeks)
Current SITREP is
Tango is long term dead with a low down engine knock, Need to come back on this one.
Coke: So the battery was flat, have fully charged, back in Bike, dead, nothing, nada except the clock. Turn on the ignition and nothing comes to life. fuses checked and good. Bike was running fine and I'm wondering if the alarm has gone into some sort of immobiliser mode (AFAICT its a Meta LEGOS 3)
Pepsi: Starts & runs fine with a charged battery but suspect the charging system again, need to go dig my meters out
That a bugger!! But with your ingenuity I'm sure both Coke and Pepsi is up and running smoothly by the end of the day - and I'm sure you'll find the spell for resurrection for Tango also!
Best of luck and error-finding
"As for the meta alarm - they have a habbit of discharging their internal battery when the bike battery goes flat. The fix was always to charge the bikes battery whilst on the bike so it allows the meta battery to charge at the same time. Then the system will wake up."
Thats where it ends up eventually so dont see any reason why not. On mine i've run a thick wire from batt negative to the bike frame separately and then run all my accessory wires to that. Overkill i suppose but cant hurt. The ones i dont like are the bunch of earths by the shock top mount, they're next on the list.
The MOSFET kit jack sells does just that. His reasoning is that the harness is a culprit for a lot of charging issues. So I have a direct 10 gauge on the negative and positive out of the R/R straight to the battery.
Most bike alarms, once they are a few years old, won't recover from the internal battery going flat- it's just a small rechargeable stack of button cells in series. If u can get into and u want to keep alarm on, you could try replacing the battery. Another option that I've done before on datatool alarms is to open them up and jumper the immobiliser circuits to prove the alarm is the culprit, quite often it isn't. The monkeys that the alarm manufacturers insist fit the alarms should never be allowed near anything remotely electrical in the majority of cases. When the insurance companies wouldn't insure birds without the alarms back in the 90s, I would go over the wiring and make good what I had had to pay through the nose to have done. I've never had a problem with any of these alarms- my present datatool series 3 is now about 12 years old- they have a really bad rep and I'm convinced it comes mostly from the quality of fitting
I'm just plain confused ....
Anyway a general point that may relate. Could these starting problems be similar to yours http://www.cbrxx.com/general-cbr-xx-discussion/33338-duck-fixed-some-stuff.html#post448458
When foeux brought the bike round to me for a check a week or so before he did the work I put the multimeter across the battery but not before we had a mug of Tea and a lengthy natter. The charging figures were just over 14v, I was confused (bike or all the painkillers I was taking :huh . Turned off went back inside ... but me being me said lets do it again ......battery voltage only showing at any revs. Let the bike cool and back over 14v.
As was the case with one of my stator failures it took some heat build up (and possibly turning the motor on/off) to cause the charging to drop off.

WFH today (honest boss) so will be popping out with freshly charged battery and my meter again and do some further checking
Pepsi is the one that had the bodged up loom fix (now corrected) and also had new stator,reg/rec & battery <1000 miless ago (after redoing the loom fix)
Only question mark is the plastic cover over the alternator cover, is it causing overheating? Think I may replace with the one off of Tango (which is currently my donor bike)
I'll bet that cover isn't helping one bit. One way to find out. Pull it and see if it cooks another one as fast. Then put it back on and see what happens. Just order a spare for the shelf like i do.
Already off, used the complete assembly from Tango
