I am trying to decide between a 2000 BB with 25,000 klm and a 2003 BB with 51,000 klm. Both are well looked after with full service history. The '03 costs 1,000 euros more but has some useful extras (side panniers, recent full service, new chain, new tires) etc. Which one would you choose?

hmm.. I think I'd go with the '03. Miles aren't too much of an issue with these bikes and that one is 3 years newer! just my 2 cents.

The '03 would get my vote. The mileage is pretty much a non-issue with this bike (assuming that both bikes are equally clean and well maintained). The digital dash is a nice touch on the '03, too.

What is the color of each bike? Here in the USA the 2000 is titanium and the 2003 is black. Personally I would take the black one. Then again, the 2000 has half the mileage. I also prefer the analog speedo over the digital one. Decide what feature is most important to you.

I would pick the 03. I was uncertain about the location of the tacho (centre) and the digital speedo until I rode my 07 a couple of times. I love it now - except for the fact you cant use the "Gee sir, the speedo needle was shaking a bit too much. I'm not exactly sure HOW fast I was going".

I would chose the 2000 with half the mileage and 1.000 EUR less without any doubt whatsoever !! Is there any reason even to think about the -03, that is the same bike, and what would that be then...

Can you buy side panniers, chain, tires for €1,000? I'd go for '03, as I stated earlier. However, it's just my two cents and your hard earned €'s.

they are basically the same bike. get the one with half the miles. or would that be kilometers? how the engine wears or doesnt wear is only part of it. a new chain and sprockets cost $180 here and you could install them yourself.

yep definitely the 2000 with half the miles. I went with a 2000 titanium and was looking at a similar choice to the one you're making. What sold me was the gauge layout. Love the analogue setup. Plus it's Titanium... ooohhh. Either way your getting a Blackbird and I'm sure you'll love it! |

Go with the bike that has less miles/Km.....miles are miles, the bike with less use *should* be in better shape.

Good luck! | The Blackbird does not have much difference from the 2000 model to the 2003 model maybe except for the instrument panel. Assuming same condition, I would go for the less mileage.

I don't think that 25000 km is an issue for these bikes if ofcourse are maintained as they are suposed to.
The extras that the 03 model has, like the new tires, new chain, side panniers is something that a sport tourer rider must consider when buying such a bike.
Also 3 years younger bike is a plus when is time to sell the bike.
My opinion?.. 2003 model.

Statistics show that when a person buys a Blackbird it is virtually impossible to pry them off the thing before their heart stops beating. I'm sure he's just innocently out riding on his favourite thing in the whole world. I haven't seen a bird with internet access yet!

Got it lads ! Sorry it took so long
I took some time pondering ... and driving some other bikes ( 1998 K1200 RS and 2006 CBF1000 ABS) !
I just got my BB yesterday. Put 200 klms on first day. It's none of the two I posted last year.
It's an all standard silver 2004 (made in 12/2003) BB with only 26,000 klms with a full service history.
Drives like a dream.
Will post some mods I am contemplating soon. |
