I always put the side stand down then dismount, then put up the centre stand. Big bikes are heavy and need care all the time. Last time I refuelled I forgot to put the side stand up and the bird wouldn't go anywhere - I felt like a dill since another bike had just rolled up to refuel.

Do you all realise that an explosive liquid is stored above your bike's engine, which explodes gases thousands of times a minute. Parts of the engine are normally hot enough to ignite the liquid if it were to come out of it's storage tank. What a wild design - exploding fuel stored over a fuel exploding device - it wouldn't pass any safety standards if it had never been done before.

Sitting on the bike while refueling isn't wise. Being careful we still sometimes make mistakes. Spilling a small amount of fuel, it could spread between your legs and/or be ignited on the engine - remember it's the petrol fumes that explode, not the liquid. A nake flame or spark could also ignite any fuel.

There used to be clips to hold the fuel nozzle on while you relax your hand but they were removed because a static spark can ignite fuel when reaching for the nozzle after it clicks off.

I don't know why they trust everyone to safely dispense petrol - I guess the fuel station staff are safely protected behind explosion proof glass shop fronts!

I have never tipped my bike over but I have seen it many a times before, I have been asked if I was paranoid though cause everytime I dismount, I kick out the side stand and and then gently just kick it with the toe of my boot 2 or 3 times before I set her down, then as I walk to the back of the bike I just gently pull on the back grab handle just to make sure she's stays there. It's become a habit now, seen to many tipped bikes at rallies, you can never be too sure

I was parking on an incline once and I thought the sidestand was down. The bike rolled back down the incline a little bit and the sidestand came back up. I go to get off the bike and it came down on top of me. I went into the side door of the car next to me with the bike on top of me. I scream can I get some help here to a guy sitting in a truck a few feet away. He says I'd like to help you but I just broke my leg and I really can't. So I inched my way to the rear wheel and managed to get the leverage I needed to get the bike upright. I'm really glad the car I crashed into had memory plastic sides and the guy who saw it had no memory of it .
