Hi all,

If you were going touring in a car you would probably probably take spares like radiator hoses (and the clips), fan belts, essential fluids etc.. That's easy if your in a car, but of course space on the bike is at a premium.

I'm planning a return trip from Perth to Melbourne (7000kms round trip) soon and I was wondering what you experienced XX tourers would recommend to take as essentials for the bike? And any special considerations to make.

Looking forward to your wisdom as this will be my first journey on the bird

Jon.

I generally carry

A tyre repair kit with lot of plugs.
Tool Kit
spare globes
Clutch and Brake levers
Duct tape

Thats about it really, if anything major were to go wrong you wouldn't be able to fix it anyway. Just remember that when touring the bikes well being takes priority ( ie: don't ride it like you stole it ). Oh and take an MP3 player, the Nullabor is a seriously lonely rode.

I do a lot of touring on the BB. 23,000 miles last year.
Just make sure all the services are up to date and the mechanicals are OK. Get a tire plug kit and a 12 V inflator. Also get a Multi-meter for diagnosis prodedures.

It's a Honda...............just ride and enjoy.

I have done a few long rides and if there is a dealer with in reach I don't carry much in the way of tools and such. If a dealer is not close I carried tyre repair stuff, duct tape, a three foot length of clear tubing, cell phone and credit card with pleanty of room on it. oh and a first aid kit because you never know

I would say:

1. Basic tools kit (crescent wrench, pliers, standard and phillips screws drivers, tire patch kit, etc.)
2. Duct tape
3. Tire pressure guage
4. Tire pressure pump, where manual or plug in.
5. Cell phone
6. Credit card(s)
7. Cash
8. Maps
9. snack food,
10. Flashlight

Have a good trip.

As Frosty said that Nullabor would be a lonely stretch. Can I suggest that as it is pretty isolated along there, you ensure that you don't leave home with a set of tyres (rear more so) that has less than say 50% tread remaining, particulalry in the centre. And plan on getting tyres at some point when you will be in a major town, or in Melb. Unless the tyres are new when you set out, it is possible you will need at least a rear before you get home depending upon what tyre is on the bike. If it's say a Pilot road or road2 you could do the return without a change, but if it's a power, you may be lucky to get 7000km from a new one.

Puncture repair kit
Inflating device, 12v or manual pump
Duct tape
tools from the bikes tool kit
spare H7 headlight globe
chain lube

Anything you can't repair with that again as Frosty said you won't be able to fix on the side of the road anyway. Get the bike in the NRMA, RACV, or the WA equivalent, could save you a fortune on towing if you needed it.

are you going to the GP?

As tweet mentioned join one of the road service clubs. When I did my trip around Australia in the 4X4 I was with NRMA plus. It really saved my backside when I was out at white cliff in far western NSW. Car broke down and NRMA arranged for a table top tow truck to take me all the way back to Broken Hill.

Oh and the problem with the car ..... a sticking butterfly valve in the carby.

Some thick easy to remove tape to protect abrasion points of your bike. It also makes the bike look as if it has been in an accident, thus know onw will steal or mess with a damaged bike. The abrasion tape to protect front fender, portions of your fairing, gas tank and tail.

A can of fix a flat

Flash light

Cell phone

Tools to change oil and adjust chain

My advice would be to get Honda Roadside assistance through the Honda Riders Club of Australia. 24 hour/7 day service. I wouldnt leave home without it.
