Production Numbers?

Does anyone know just how many of these bikes are out there in the U.S.? Maybe a breakdown of model year would be cool.

Re: Production Numbers?

I would like to know too. Honda says that it is propriatary information and would not give it to me. There should be records available with good solid numbers on import documents (PUBLIC INFO) although I do not know how to get them.

Re: Production Numbers?

My 2003 was built in November of 2002. The last importing of the XX was in 2003 meaning any of the US Birds left will be coming up on 7 years old. The bikes have an awesome following and their owner seem to take very good care of them so it is likely there are a large number of them still on the road. I have yet to run across another so the uniqueness of owning one is all that much better.

The first bike off the line was "WM100001. Mine is 3M600735." Where this comes in terms of the actual number built between the Fall of 97 and when mine was built in November of 2002 (a 2003 model) I don't know.

Re: Production Numbers?

Anyone find that import data yet? It would be nice to have while searching for my stolen one. Police claim that the insurance investigator says 100,000; yes 100,000 worldwide. This is obviously B.S.; 6,000,000,000 people in the world, knock off 5 zeros, 60,000 people per bird. Over 2/3 of the world does not ride. 20,000 people per bird, over 80 different brands per model year with xx being an exclusive bike, numbers don't make sense. These are devils advocate numbers for best case scenario.

I wouldn't count on the BS part. At 100,000 units that only 10,000 a year, which is quite reasonable.

Re: Production Numbers?

I wouldn't doubt it at all if the bike were even reasonably popular. 10,000 units in a year is actually pretty low. Harley builds 3 times that in models like the Softail and Touring machines. The Sportster is almost double that.

The 2003 XX was $3,500 more than my 2004 Roadster new and the XX now books for $1,400 less. On a good day the XX will pull 45mpg and the Roadster will pull 59. Granted, 2 different rides so that's why I have both and that's pretty smart.

No. Are you?

If there are that many bikes going out in any given year than the price of a used bike should be a lot lower.

Don't forget either that at this point no one in this discussion has dropped a factual statistic. Although I do agree that there are many stupid people in the world.

P.S.

So is it reasonable or not reasonably popular; please clarify.
