What are your thoughts about changing the oil/filter before storing the Bird' from now till March, as opposed to changing in March when riding resumes. I currently have 3000 miles on OEM Honda oil.

I'm able to ride mine at least a few days each month during the winter, but I still change the oil/filter around this time of year since it will be sitting more than usual.

Whenever I store something, I always either "fog" it- with the boat, or do a fresh oil change prior to putting it away, and then start it, run it 20-30 miles and then change it out again in the spring. Don't forget to stabil the gas.

Also consider attaching a battery tender. Some folks pull the battery completely, then put it on a tender. If it's gonna sit for at least a couple of months, I'd put it on the center stand and try to get the weight off the front tire as well.

Course you could just ride year round. I usually get a few days out of each month during the winter where I can take the Bird out. I keep my XX in the shed (no garage ) and just keep a path clear of snow so when the weather permits I ride. Don't have to worry 'bout all that winterizing stuff.

I've found it is also good to take it off the tender periodically as it gives the batery a break from constant heat and electrical input.

Best yet is to take the bike for a ride on nicer days if you can - get some heated gear - no worse than snowmobiling.

Main thing to remember is that oil forms harmful acids even though it may still be lubricating. I'm a big fan of frequent oil changes - 3K - would be ok if it was from a single trip. But I would rather change it 2K or less. Really, oil is cheap. Brake fluid absorbs water, rebuilding brake cylinders is not my favorite winter project. AND!!! don't forget the coolant, change that every year as well and that machine may just last till you're too old to ride ------------------------
