Well I took the Redbird to the track Friday night, test & tune. Was hoping to get 5 to 7 runs, but first round cars a guy oiled the track from half way on. Made 4 runs. My 01 is completely stock, I mean off the showroom floor stock. This is my third BB 97, 02, and now 01. I didn't think this bike felt quite as quick as either of the other two. Made some runs on my 97 back in 97 or 98. Samething stock all the way. Got into the 10.7's or 10.8's, over 130 mph.

Well I was kind of disappointed, 11.05(126.42), wheelied too bad and aborted, 11.21(127.75), and 11.20(127.26). I thought after the first run of 11.05 things would get better but they didn't, as you can see by the times. Sixty foots were 1.895, 2.032, 1.962. I realize they got worse. I was just rolling it off the line the best I could. I just don't run enough to be able to feather the clutch. I do flat shift to 2nd useing the clutch, after that I just crack the throttle enough to hit the next gear without the clutch.

One of the main questions is I am within, I would say about, 100' from the finish line, when hitting about 9500 in 4th. Should I hold in it or shift to 5th? I have done it both ways and can't see which is doing better.

What else can I do coming off the line to get a better 60'? I know that's the biggest part of my ET. I am not going the add anything to the bike, want it all stock.

Just a side note. Ran a Busa in the third and forth round. This guy was sleeping at the light. Third run I ran 11.217 to his 10.544 he won by .2014. Forth run I ran 11.203 to his 10.437, I beat him by .0157. Not much but I got the win light. Also, his front end was strapped down, had a pipe and who knows what else.

Nah.

;-)

Strap the front and practice.. If you get your 60' below 1.8 you will be running in the 10's, from there it is all about that 60' and putting it to the ground as fast as possible without spin or wheelie.

No substitute for practice. (And, that being the fun part, isn't a hardship!)

90% of the skill is launching in first gear

gains can be made everywhere but the first 60ft yeilds the most

------

lose weight as much as you can - less fuel - take a dump - lol

set the suspension for drag mode
- try lowering the front and rear

get a bigger rear sprocket

get tucked right in above 80mph - maybe wear a race hump -

let air out of the rear tyre for better traction
more air in the front less rolling resistance

---------------------------

go for consistant 60ft times rather than mad all or nothing - that way you get a good feel for the rest of the run

it takes skill to run in the 10s on a bird - practice gets you that skill

It has been a while since posting this. I practiced getting off the line on the backroads. Did about a dozen launches. Finally coming off fairly well. I was just rusty after not being on the track in almost ten years, as you will see.
Went to the track about a month later. After the first run I was satisfied and ready to go home. No changes made to the bike whatsoever. First run 10.707 @ 131.29(1.828-60'), second run 10.694 @ 131.29(exact same mph)(1.824-60') and third and final run I did was 10.827 @ 131.57(1.902-60'). Was grinning and heading home!

Have a Great Day and Ride Safe!!!

on a stock bike i wud say to make sure you leave at round 6500 rpms and try 2 feather it out and make sure you get onto full throttle as fast as possible
