I rang the mechanic about my bike this mornig to see how it was going, to my suprise not back together yet.
stator, rectifier, battery and connections all ok but still doesnt want to charge battery at low rpms
Does anyone have any idea whats going on?
The only other thing i was worried about was the stator that the mechanic replaced. The stator was from a fireblade and he had to reuse my old wiring harness as the blade's was shorter do you think this could cause a problem?
Everything worked fine for about 2 and a half months after it was repaired

The Fireblade stator only works in a '97-'98 Blackbird... NOT the PGM-FI models. I assume yours is a carb'd model?

The XX normally does not have a meaningful charge rate at idle.... When I come to a stoplight and have to idle for a minute or so, my Datel voltmeter will drop as low as 12.6v @ ~ 1100 RPM

If your idle speed is below 1100 RPM, this is not helping your cause at all. Even if your at 1100 RPM, you're just not going to be doing a whole lot of charging at that low engine speed. Once it comes off idle (and above the 2500 RPM mark), my Datel goes right to 14.4volts....

I was just wondering if the connector corrosion problem in the 99-2000 birds could be a factor in the charging problems .

Dale, care to add any more input ?

Speaking as a marine technician, corrosion will play a factor in anything it touches.

I am just wondering if one or more of the many ground wires that are in that connector bundle may be corroded enough to affect the charging circuit (I don't have the wiring schematic of your particular bike handy).

Worth a peek at the very least, don't you think?
