My Bird is actually a 09/96 plated model, though I think it's regarded as a '97 model, as the year models usually change in September of each year, well that's how it is in Australia, (I think). Don't quote me on that.

Bought mine in June 2008, 2006 silver bird, demo model, 351 klms on the clock, replated 2008 So far, I have fallen off it, stationary, top heavy and could not hold it up, Scratched the fairing a bit, and hit a rabbit with the front wheel coming home through the hills, very close to losing it, doing about 100 klms, still running it in, crap weather still,

Went through this recently as I was looking at buying a new car and the dealer (Toyota) said that if we were ordering a new car (ex factory) and it was going to come in late Dec we would be better of to tell them to wait till Jan to get it compliance plated as an 09
So here it isn't really date of manufacture just when it's complianced
We had a bit of a discussion on OzBB recently about this because a member sold a bike he had bought brand new in mid 07 (Busa I think) as an "07" model went to sell it and the compliance plate said 11/06 (which is apparently how the DMV's in most states licence them).
So effectively he couldn't sell it as an 07 only an 06, he was pissed off to say the least
We also have dealers selling 4-5 year old CBR250 RR's as "new" 08 models because they have stockpiles of them in Japan and it is when they are imported and complianced not manufactured |
