Quite a decline after the 2003 model year. From the numbers it looks like the North American market was about 90% of the total. Makes one wonder why Honda stopped importing after that year. |

'99. Bought with 4,900 miles on her in February. Went for my first real ride last weekend and I can't wait until the next one. (I'll come up with a better avatar pic as soon as I find someone with a decent camera).

mine is a 1997 except one side fairing is a 99 and the rear caliper is off of a 2003. So 98% 1997 the rest mutt. It also has 97,000 miles

How on earth did you find a '99 with 5 thou on the clock. Where are these old Birds, they don't seem to be in Canada. Are there any '06,'07's in the US? It warms my heart to know there's a Bird with nearly 320,000 kms on it. My "02 only has 102,000 kms.

It was like buying a brand new bike but not having to worry about the break in period.
Once this season is over she won't be on the short side of 12,000 miles anymore.

My '01 in candy glory red. I got it at 6K miles, and I'm sad to say I've only put 800 miles on her so far. But they are great miles!

Bit miffed. I bought my bird a year ago and was informed by the shop that it was a 99 Bird. Just ripped the bike apart to re-spray and do some mods, only to discover that it's a 98 Bird. But hey, still the best bike I've ever owned (until I can talk the wife into letting me have an MV Augusta F4).

No idea yet, found a sticker on the frame that says 1100XX-W which would make it a 98. I'll be having a look at the FI/carb side of things once I know what I'm looking for!

Just look for where the oil cooler is. If it is mounted infront of the radiator, it's a '99. If the nostrils have mesh instead of vertical bars, it is '98 model.
I used to have a Candy Apple Red '98 until it died by dropping when I lightly touched the brakes to maintain my separation from a car infront of me at 100-110kph on a freeway (60-65mph). Front just dropped out with no sign of it locking at all. Then it went off the side of the road on it's side and hit a cheesecutter post. Front wheel hit it straight on and it put a 4-5 inch dent into the rim. The post was completely unmarked.
That was Sep 04. I just got a new bike after almost 3 years and it is another 'bird, this one is a Black 1/07 model. |

The short answer is, no money to replace it. 2 (now 3), kids and being out of full time work for 2 years... (The isurance had to help finance a cage replacement, as I haven't figured out how to get a <1yo to stay put... Occy straps maybe??? And the cost of keeping them in helmets... )
It hasn't been easy, and the last few months I've been getting twitchy... So when I saw them for $12,990+orc, what else could I do?
My sister, (who is 10y older than me and also has her license, but usually just rides pillion on my brother-in-law's Buell), also said that she wondered how I lasted so long without one.

Well unfortunately I hit something on the freeway that put hole in the oil pan and by the time I could get off the freeway(SoCal rush hour in the carpool lane) the crank was ruined. So I got a low milage motor a couple of years ago that now only has about..mmmmm.....getting to close to 80,000 miles The first motor had 76,000, it had a very unusual problem right after I got it but after I fixed that I had no problems, the second motor is very strong no problems. The real suprise is that I have never had the rear shock off of it and I went 100,000 miles before I had to change the fork seals, one just blew again though in only 30k. Oh ya I looped it once and got hit on hit once. I will never get rid of this bike!
