A BIG THANKS TO ALL THE WELL WISHES - IT'S VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
Still sore, but will be riding in less than 6 weeks (Dr. says 6 weeks for recovery, I say 3 ). Will be stripping front end in the next day or two and getting the carcass to my frame guy to determine if everything is straight. I'm pretty optimistic with my preliminary measurements. Once I receive word that frame/forks/etc. will be returned straight, I'll start the process. For sure will need right and left plastics, nosecone, front fender, instrument panel, headlamp assembly, fairing stay, and mirror parts. VFR clip-ons and bar ends are broken, but still have OEM. Reservoirs and various head pieces are scratched and dinged, but look usable and will replace as funds become available. Same goes for the tank - pretty good gash, but doesn't appear to be leaking any fuel. Need to evaluate closely and will update needs soon.
Yes there was insurance, but unfortunately no collision ($1600/yr full coverage , or $900/yr without collision). Oh well, live and learn.
According to my wife, guy in the van did stop. It seemed like he was gloating that I got hurt when giving his account to the police. Anyway, thanks to reports from witnesses, he was cited with reckless endangerment - which is a criminal offense in the state of Washington. It opens him up to a large fine, jail time and the possibility of getting sued by me in civil court if convicted.
Anyway, thanks again for everyone's prayers and support. As it stands now, still planning on attending HookersXX

Thanks again to you all! I think one of the things that keeping him going right now is the fact that he's excited to get his bike back up and running.
BTW, since he can only type with one finger now (usually a two finger typer) I took pity on him and typed out his replies to posts and PM's while he sat and dictated. Now I can add "secretary" to my resume' of wifely duties!
Oh, just got his gear back from my brother-in-law (I left it in his truck when he took me to the hospital). Guess it's time to go shopping for new gear too.
Everyone, please remember to gear up every time!! We were only 2 blocks from home when this accident happened. Shield from helmet got ripped off on one side as he slid across the road, but it did a great job at protecting his head!

Great to hear you are (reasonably) OK.

oh man am I glad to hear that guy stopped and is potentially in a little trouble! I, along with pretty much everyone, was very ticked about that whole situation. I hope they stick to their guns and at least fine the guy!
Whenever I encounter people like that I just pull off somewhere and let them get on with their day without killing me, take a little break, and then get back to riding.

Ya, what everyone above me said plus some......very very glad the dildo in the van got his just rewards.
Looks like the Rocket gear and helmet did their job.
Question, what model of J/R coat were you wearing?

Glad you were wearing your gear, Vern. And it's good to see you at least *think* you can start the bike rebuild process with one wing. Quote:

With every one of these stories, with each idiot cage encounter, and with every passing year, I get better and better at doing this all the time. With GF on the bike, I'm pretty much 100% into this solution by now. The problem with not being even more consistent is my natural sense of indignation and hotheadedness. But I'm getting much better at it. Those idiots can be lethal.

Glad to hear the recovery is going well. And glad to hear I am not the only one here typing with one finger ( hence the short responces).
Get well fast...

Question, what model of J/R coat were you wearing? | The gear did a great job. Will now be looking for new gear, but the jacket was a J/R Meteor 5.0. Quote:

But I'm getting much better at it. Those idiots can be lethal. | Yeah, "think" is the operative word. Started to strip it down yesterday on a rocking chair as my wife did all the dirty work. Got it down to frame, engine, forks, and wheels. Frame damage looks minimal, but the frame jig will let us know for sure in the next few days. Rebuild will start in earnest after that.
I am also hot-headed but have increasingly become more and more defensive as the years pile on. Had I been by myself, I would have long passed him and been done with this threat. However with my wife riding beside me I was just showing a cooler head and backing off. Then he just stopped completely in the road. After his initial beef with our brights, he waved me on but then cut my wife off and almost ran me over. That's where the line was crossed and I was in pursuit solely to obtain his license plate. I guess he just wanted to play games. I'll continue to keep the riding pleasureable and try to avoid conflict with cagers. Quote:

Vern, It's good to know that you're ok. It's also good to know that the next time something like this happens you're probably going to handle it in a different, more effective way. And there will be others. There are a lot of them out there. Keep your cool. Plan your moves. Come down on 'em hard.
