Any of you have any idea how the Blackbird stacks up agaings a 2004 and up CBR 1000 RR? Top speed and quarter mile time?

Just curious, rode with a guy who had one this weekend, group ride, so no racing, but just curious as to what the additional 137 cc does for us.

I had an '04 1000RR. More horsepower, less weight, how can it lose?

Really Conqsoft, do you still have it. If not why did you stick with the bird and lose the RR?

Nope, I got it back when I had my 02 XX. But, it was too uncomfortable, and I needed something for my wife to be comfortable on also, so I switched to an 04 VFR. Then I missed the power of the XX, so I got rid of the VFR and got the 03 XX.

FZRCBRKLX rider, thanks for the link, wow, really puts things in perspecitve. New race bikes are just somehting. Just cant lean that far forward.

Conq, I hear you. Like to know I have power, but in all truth, I am too chicken to use it.

I will never see 180.

I didn't miss the extra power in that way, but 2-up, loaded with luggage, the VFR was sluggish.

I've ridden both an '04 and an '06 1000RR. Don't know about top end (check the online reviews) but... both are quicker, and less comfortable than the 'Bird. The '06 RR was a GREAT improvement over the '04 and '05 models. MUCH better power delivery, handling and ergos. I wouldn't even consider the earlier models.

I have an 03 Bird and an 06 CBR1000RR. The ergos are quite different between them of course.

I find the 06 1KRR quite comfortable; it has your butt up higher than the Bird, but the reach to the bars is much closer. Surprisingly comfortable for a sport bike!

I like the way you sit lower in the Bird, but I find the reach to the bars a bit of a stretch. I have some Heli bars to install, which will probably make this much better for me.

I have the 1KRR set up for road tracks, and take the Blackbird to the drag strip.

I was gonna sell the Blackbird, but I like it too much to part with it, so I have 2 bikes in the stable...

Well, actually 3; also have a '72 Norton 750 Commando waiting to be restored.

The xx will hold right with 1000rr. The 1000rr has a lot less weight, but we have the cc to make up for it. Quater mile it would depend on the rider. Top speed is very close. I would push the xx before I would ride the rr!

According to the link above, and other stats I've read, the 1000RR will beat an 1100XX in the quarter mile, given stock bikes and riders of equal ability.

Quarter mile;
'99 1100XX 10.40 seconds at 136.14 MPH
'06 1000RR 9.89 seconds at 146.47 MPH

I don't know about the newer Birds (I have an '03), but it doesn't seem that Honda changed the Birds much over the years.

And the 1000RR would also pull away from the 1100XX in the twisties, given its lighter weight, sharper steering geometry, and more modern suspension components.

This is of course comparing stock bikes with riders of equal ability.

With modified bikes and/or different riders, all bets are off.

No slam on the Bird meant here, I love my Bird.

Yeah... CC's don't matter. The 1000RR will spank the XX. It's a lot lighter and it's putting more HP to the ground.

He said, several times, assuming EQUAL RIDERS.

RR is alot lighter, more HP stock and a better bike overall for performance than the XX. The XX is a fat pig by comparison.

Thanks for all the feedback. I figured as much, but apparently I haven't read in all the right spots. Still love my bird. Yeah it is heavier blah blah blah, but I like it and not much of a street/freeway racer. Damn cagers will win every time.

Having the quickest / fastest bike is chasing your tail anyway! There's always a new kid on the block.

I was planning on selling the Bird when I got my CBR1000RR, but I like and prefer the Bird for street riding.

So I kept it, because it's comfortable, stable, stylish, and damn fast!

So its all about liking your ride!

I was riding on a back road one night at about 100 k and hit a 30lb Racoon dead on!
The XX took it out without a flinch.

Ill take my fat pig over a lighter bike anyday!!! Enough power for me!!
