Since picking up the '99 XX, 6-7 other bikes have come and gone. This thing remains. Have (And have had) some good bikes to compare it to. Honda nailed it ten years ago for it still competes well.

I'd love to keep mine (to many farkels) if I could just afford to get the GTR14 as a stablemate, along with a new KLR!

Even if I could afford a "newer" bike, I'd still keep my XX. I am really happy with the performance and I have riden it a lot this past year with no problems whatsoever. It is a bargain for all that it does, so no, I'm not getting another bike for years to come. I don't really care if they update the XX, I won't be in the market anyway. If I got another bike, I'd opt for an dirt/street mix or maybe that Yamaha cruiser that has sport bike suspension. But again, I'm not able to afford such things, so my XX is just fine.

The Blackbird will become a classic for it's cutting edge technology, benchmark performance, and elegant, functional aerodynamic beauty.

Doug,
You should try to walk away from a red one.
Even one with scratches on it like mine.
I do the 500 mile days, and love it. I just wish Dale would do group buys when I had money. OK, so there would never be a group buy.
I don't see this bike going anywhere for years. Suspension yes, 1200 kit, maybe after 150k miles. It is damn sexy, and most people don't know what it is.
I like being in the minority.

That's one of the reasons I like riding the Bird, not many people know what it is or appreciates how quick it can be. It's a keeper.

When I bought my '97 I didn't know the first thing about Blackbirds. I'd owned Hondas in the past and just figured it would make a good commuter. Three years later and a handfull of second bikes but the XX still stays number one in my mind. All I can say is I'm really glad I stumbled onto this bike. I rarely see any around and will all of my graphics removed it's amazing how many people don't know what it is.

I had always wanted to have a Blackbird, but for a variety of reasons, did not get one until this past spring. I had looked for one last year, but they are pretty rare in the used market here in Ontario, so when a low km, clean '03 came up in the spring I had to get it.
I can't imagine ever getting rid of the 'bird. None of the other bikes I have ever owned are remotely like it, and it keeps getting better looking.
If Honda doesn't want to bring one back to the North American market, then we just have an awesome collector's item.
Plus, there are few rushes like +7,000 rpms! |

This thread brings up a question that's been on my mind the past few months. Does anyone know of any new or nearly new Birds sitting in dealerships anywhere? I'd love to add a newer one to my garage.

I wasn't even looking at the Blackbird when I bought mine. After I totaled my Z1000 I looked at cycle trader & cruised a few dealers before I bought my bird.
I found it at a dealer but kept looking at other bikes for about a week.
Now I'm glad I bought my bird it's a great bike very smooth & comfortable.

I've had my '97 XX for nearly two years now. About a month ago I bought (on a whim) an '05 YZF-600R. I was thinking it could somehow compare to the XX in at least a few ways. I can't believe how wrong I was.
I rode the YZF a grand total of 3 times before I decided to sell it. Build quality seems inferior... it pales in comparison to the XX in almost every way I can think of... except maybe fuel economy.
Needless to say... Honda got it right with the XX... that's all there is to it. However, Honda needs to get busy on building the XX v2.0. Heck... I'd be perfectly happy if they just started producing v1.0 again.
