I am looking at a couple of BBs and wanted to get options on whether I should try to get a 99 and up for the fuel injection or if a low mile 98 will be just as trouble free.

Simple question, but the answer is probably not quite so simple.
Taking reliability as the sole criteria, not much in it.
Carbs are great if they haven't been tampered with (they do encourage screw twiddlers) and are kept in tune.
Inj is turn key and go, but when you have problems it can be much harder to isolate the problem due the many sensors and interconnectd items.
That said my 99 injection (bought in 2000) has apart from the usual stator, reg/rec and battery issues has been faultless for nearly 70K miles.
So IMHO it really depends on you as an owner, do you 'trust' mechanical methods or do you 'trust' little clicking boxes that contain smoke?
As for the rest of the bike no differences that make one more reliable than the other ............ I would hapily have either Carb or Injection.
Full of Hot air? Intercool yourself............ you know it makes sense
Since I don't own a spanner and keep my tech on a retainer, I prefer FI.

Thanks for the feedback, I decided to go with the 98 as it was better taken care of and much lower miles.
