First post for me--I am in the process of buying a 2001 Red-bird with less than 4000 miles on it. Major concern is that when it was bought it went on tour and had its first oil change at the end of the tour at about 2500 miles, instead of at 600 miles. Bike was broke in as per Honda on the RPM'S
It has also had oil changes the start of every riding season, I always like to change at the end of the season so it sits with fresh oil all winter. It has been filled to the max with gas and sta-bil at the end of the season.
Should any of this be a major concern to me?
PS This is not my first bike, I am over 50 and plan to use it for touring.
Last Honda was a 2000 ST1100

Thanks in advance

First off, welcome to the forum, kup1236!

The Blackbird's inline-4 is every bit as stout as that splendid over-built, under-stressed V-4 in the ST1100. If the bike is otherwise running well, I believe you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Going touring, huh? You're likely spoiled by the ST1100's generously-sized saddlebags. No problem that a nice set of Givi's won't cure. Take a gander at this thread here for a set of Givi's currently for sale.

Welcome aboard...

to the site - and Dale (Warchild) has probably logged more miles on a BB than any of us - so his advise should be pretty sound.

Welcome,
I haven't ridden the ST, But I love my 01 XX.
The manual puts oil changes at 8k, but most do it more often. A search will yield more thoughts about oil than there are stars in the sky.
Enjoy her, I have done many 500+ mile days with no problems. This says alot when I don't get to ride every day.

Ya,don't ever go 8000k on 1 oil change, ugh.I've also ridden an ST1100,like a big couch. You can go farther easier on it but the XX is so much more fun.Cornering won't be half the effort, but keeping your license will be twice the effort.
Have fun.
