TRANNING BEARINGS

I read where a guys tranny bearing failed?

Is this something that should be replaced regularly?

Blackbird gearbox's are very strong they can take a 100% power increase reliable.

Depending on how you ride and maintain your Bird , maybe after a million miles. It's a Honda.

You may be referring to my post regarding parting out my Blackbird because of Trany failure. Details are as follows: Vibration had increased and I was hearing more gear noise, sounding different in each gear, the bike has over 100k miles on it. Clearly something was changinng in the gearbox and I didn't want to ride the Bird to catastrophic failure, risking considerably more damage.

I got a good deal on a low mileage salvaged bike that was mechanically sound but all the plastic was trashed so I rebuilt the salvaged Bird.

Since then I've done some research on the trany issue and I suspect the problem is a worn thrust bearing in the trany. I still have the engine, one of these days I'll open it up and verify what is was.

I have a complete 6500 mile trans with shift drum, shift forks, etc. if you decide to fix it after you open it up...Hank
