I can hear strong rattling noise generated by the clutch that is quite obvious on cold startup and then it seems to dissappear once the engine/clutch is warm. At first I thought it's cct, but it is definitely the clutch. Is this a sign the clutch will need to be replaced in the near feature? Any suggestions as for the parts source/price? On the other hand today I rode the first time after going back to OEM exhaust after d&d and I LOVE it! The sweet turbine whirl is here to stay!
Thanks

This is 100% normal on the Blackbird. While it is annoying, you have NOTHING to worry about.

Personally, I keep the clutch pulled in while the bike is warming up, because I find the clutch basket rattling a bit unnerving on what is a normally such a smooth platform.

Still, you have no worries. It is just the clutch basket rattling around. As you correctly observe, it dissipates once the oil is up to temp.

Thanks guys; I feel so much better...Cold weather down south is highly unusual so propably this is why I did not hear it before...D&D exhaust contributed also to me not hearing startup noises

I can hear too this strong rattling noise generated by the clutch on cold startup and then it seems to dissappear once the engine is warming up. Wenn the engine is "on temp" wenn you hit throttle fast you can hear this strong rattling noise from the clutch. Is this normal??

If there is, I am unaware of it. While annoying, it doesn't seem to have had any adverse effects. It would be nice if it wasn't there at all, I'll agree to that. But I've never heard of a "fix" to this.... and I'm not sure it merits tearing the bike apart to try to remedy a issue that is a known characteristic and has no real adverse impact other that annoyance....

I assume you mean when the engine is hot, and you're at a standstill, and you have the bike in neutral, and then hit the throttle?

And you say you can hear the rattling under those conditions?

It's kinda hard for me to say, Leistung, as I've never done that particular test. Now, if you're doing this while the bike is in gear (and I assume you are therefore rolling down the road), then that's a different story.

Yes, with the engine on working temperature, in neutral, and then hit the throttle a bit but faster, not for getting to much revs, only to around ~3000 rpm and the you can hear this irritate rattle. I have heared that blackbirds who they owners run 1/4 mille have problems with clutch basket. Because i don´t have the bike from new, i doubt about what the previous owner did with the bike.

Anyway we must live with a few of common problems with no solutions.

I really appreciate all information that we can share. Thanks

This is probably the same "rattle" I hear from 3-4000rpm's. One thing I did notice while I was riding yesterday was that @ "highway" speeds 55-75mph, in 6th gear, the rpm's were @ 3-4000. So the majority of the time the engine is staying in that rpm range while cruisin'. I'm not the original owner, so I don't know what kind of break in she had, & am starting to think this may prematurely start to wear on the motor. The only time she gets to the upper rpm's is when I'm shifting up thru the gears, or on the weekend rides w\the group. Five days a week though, it's up & down US 1 in the same rpm range. Will replacing the CCT make the rattle go away? I guess the only way to know for sure is to replace it, huh?

If it is the CCT then the noise will progressively get louder and more often. There no known cases of any damage due the CCT noise but rather is more of an irratation.
I would not worry about it until it becomes a distraction for you and then throw in a new CCT.

The little woman says if I get any more tickets on the Bird, she's getting grounded for a while. The last one I got was 74 in a 55, & that was after I saw him...115 before .

Should have kept it at 115, then he wouldn't have caught you

Now if you only had the fastest color, black, you'd be more stealthy.

I've found the clutch rattle will go away if I pull the clutch a couple times slowly while the bike is warming up.

I only bought one of these babies three weeks ago. Been back in the shop for the last week because of this noise. Poor guy who sold it to me stripped and rebuilt the whole clutch to try to find the problem.

Eh.... Oooooopsy....

I think I should call him and tell him its okay now.
Or maybe not.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know what that noise was. Pulled in the clutch before starting and no noise now.
