Re: 2003 Bird for sale!

You know, I am amazed! I have looked on both sites at everything for sale and I have only had a few offers. I cant believe someone hasn't jumped all over this bike. I mean it has everything you could ask for. Corbin gunfighter and lady, Akropovic full titanium exhaust with cf can, heli bars, new 2ct tires, sentered brakes, power commander usb, acumen volt/gear indicator. And all stock parts to go with it.

I don't think it's because there is anything wrong with the bike, but rather because we all own one already.

Have you advertised it on some non-XX sites?

Re: 2003 Bird for sale!

Renhalt... This is a sweet looking bike. It could be like Shewie said that most of us here already have an XX. Still you see folks posting up now and then saying that they are looking for a bird here on the forum. Maybe nobody close to you right now. Adding shipping to the cost might be prohibitive for some if they are not close to where you live. Flying down and driving back also adds cost for those that are not close. I will say that in the past that extra added cost has caused me to pass on some nice bikes that I have seen. What a nice ride and adventure it would be though. If I didn't already have one myself I would be interested in yours. I like that you also still have the stock seat and pipes. I'm personally not a fan of the corbin seats and happen to like the stock seat but that corbin would come in handy when riding two up even for me. My experience with the corbins is also from a different bike so it could be a lot different with the XX corbin. I sure would like to try one with that exhaust system that you have on your bike. That CF can looks great and everybody raves about the akrapovic exhaust system. TI and carbon. You can't beat that set up. Sometimes its just a matter of timing and finding a buyer close to you. Have you considered putting it on cycletrader or craigslist?

Re: 2003 Bird for sale!

Blackbirdxx and I have worked out a price, but he wants to go through escrow.com Has anyone ever had any experience with them? I guess the buyer deposits the money into this escrow account then I ship the bike to the buyer, if he is alright with everything then he releases the money to the seller. Sounds complicated to me, and besides the buyer is the only one really protected. I mean my bike will be 8 states away and I don't even have the money. What's to prevent the buyer from not following through with the deal? Then what I have to pay to ship it back? Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

Re: 2003 Bird for sale!

Tough call but I wouldn't be sending my bike anywhere if I didn't have the cash in my hand. I would rather make an allowance for the buyer to come and see it, do the deal and help him arrange the shipping.

When I moved to Tasmania the movers put a dent in the fuel tank $1000 replacement I was Insured but who would decide who was responsible for that if the bike was sold unseen?

I am not saying the buyer is not to be trusted, just too many variables for both parties and like you say the cash is safe but the bike is out of your hands

I bought a bike a few years back from a guy in Melbourne, I lived in Cairns just under 3000k away. Sent me the pics etc, said he was confident in the info he sent to me. Agreed to refund the airfare if I bought it. I went down picked it up and took a few days riding back up the east coast great trip

Re: 2003 Bird for sale!

You know I bought mine in June of this year. The bike was all stock, no nice goodies like you have and I paid the same as what you are asking for yours. I would have loved to fly to Florida,(what an adventure) have you pick me up at the airport and buy the bike and head for home. There would have been a bit of red tape at the border, but no problem if the title was clear, but I would have checked that out before I left home. If Florida is like here the recession might be having an impact on your sale, along with credit. Yes credit, people seem to go out and buy from a dealer new or used and pay more just so they can finance the purchase instead they miss out on a great buy like yours! I Buy some on Ebay and when I lay out a few hundred on a purchase, I worry and worry until I have the item in my hand. And that is insured through Ebay. Do you have any insurance on this transaction? You will sell it when you least expect it. Good luck.

Re: 2003 Bird for sale!

Thanks I appreciate your input. I kinda feel the same way. I mean the guy is getting a smokin deal on the bike, and is worried about the bike checking out. I mean anyone who knows anything about these bikes can look at the pics and clearly see it's no junk. I have sold go fast boats for $85,000. on ebay sight unseen, I just sold two 08 yamaha fxsho jetskis for $25,000. and shipped to Baltimore, MD. I don't know, on one hand i want to sell it. On the other, it seems to be more trouble than what its worth. I guess I am lucky, Im in no pinch and don't have to sell it if I don't want to.

I would never even let someone TEST RIDE a motorcycle I was selling without first having MONEY IN HAND.....much less allow it to be shipped halfway across the country with no money first to someone Ive never even met in person?
(no offense directed your way blackbirdxx)

Re: 2003 Bird for sale!

No offense taken GS1100. I can certainly understand everyone's comments about sending your bike off without having the check in hand but you have to look at it as a buyer also. Would you just mail off a cashiers check to somebody that you don't know in hopes that a bike appears on your doorstep? Now I am certainly not saying that renhalt has bad intentions, and from all my talks with him he is a super nice guy and I am sure his bike is nice...I was just proposing that we use an independant third party to facilitate the transaction. The process was simple and protected both of us. First, I would send the ceritfied funds to the third party. Then they would let renalt know when they recieved the funds...which would give him the confidence to release the bike to the shipper and send the title in to the independant third party. Once the bike arrives at my place, I call the third party and they send the certified funds to renalt and the title to me.

I didn't think this was in any way an offensive offer to him and so I am not sure why he is here on the boards acting like I am being fishy...

Oh well, no worries.

If you don't want to ride it home, rent a U-haul truck on a one-way. It all depends on how much you want a great XX.

Renhalt, have you had it on Craigslist?

A one way U-haul truck costs more than hiring a shipping company.

The idea of the U-haul truck is for you to go look at the bike and make up your mind before you buy it. If you buy it and don't want to ride back, haul it. If you don't want to buy it, fly home.

Re: 2003 Bird for sale!

I am not saying you were trying any shady stuff. But put your self in my shoes, your the only one protected in that transaction. I'm not saying that you would, but lets say you receive the bike and say you don't like it. I mean you could try and beat me up on the price, which by the way I'm already taking a loss, or not pay at all. Then what? My pride and joy is in Omaha and i would have to pay shipping both ways. I mean I wouldn't let my own brother ride my bike, let alone ship it halfway across the country to someone I don't know without receiving any money.

There are a lot of bikes for sale right now, I challenge you to find one in as great a shape as mine with all the after market parts for the same money! Or much better less. I drove 9 1/2 hours one way to buy this bike because I didn't want to buy someone else s problems. And I assure you I looked at plenty of birds for sale and this is the one in my garage. Were there birds closer? Sure! Were they as nice as this one? No! Sometimes you need to give a little to get a little. As I said before I will take the bike to any dealer or mechanic in the area you choose and have them go over the bike and verify it is what i say it is. And i will also take a high resolution video of the bike running and so on as well. Or better yet, get a one way ticket to Florida, I will pick you up at the airport and you can smile all the way back to Omaha. Balls in your court my friend! You wanna fish or cut bait!

Re: 2003 Bird for sale!

that was the hardest part about buying my bike from florida and me being in montana, was the transaction.... what i did was got a cashiers check and e-mailed him the copy of the reciept, he called the bank to verify.. once the bike was on the truck to be hauled i sent the money and when he got the money i got the paperwork... definatly is a tricky business tho

Re: 2003 Bird for sale!

I am in the process of selling one of my cars here in FL to a buyer in IL - just waiting for the truck to pick it up. The buyer got pics and a copy of the title to show I owned it free & clear. He sent a $2k deposit and had a friend stop by to see the car in person and I gave him the title and bill of sale, which contained a note stating the car would not be released until the balance ($40k) was received via wire (got it this morning); I sent him the bill of sale beforehand and he signed/scanned/emailed it back. There is always a certain amount of trust involved on both sides but you can cover almost everything...I have done a lot of transactions like this over the years and never had a problem.

Best of luck to you both...Bob Z.

+1 !! I put two bikes for sale this summer. Had half dozen worthless tire kickers and two "serious" buyers asking me to bend backwards. It got to the point where since I don't "have to" sell them and was just trying to clear garage space, I figured.... **** it. I ain't bending over. Backwards or otherwise. And I'm not giving anyone a sales pitch about how good the bike(s) is (are). It is what it is. Take it or leave it. Want to talk to a salesman, go to a dealer. So I still have them. And even though I don't ride as much as I used to, I'm happy and contempt. And the two "serious" buyers still pop now and again asking sellers when they post bikes for sale on the owner's lists. So yeah, they are serious until it comes time to put their money where their mouth is.
