Beondwacko makes an excellent point about the faring painting.
Deathwish... Enjoy and be careful out there. By the way I also try to block idiots from running into fellow bikers. Cool.
Beondwacko,
So now that you were disappointed with the bike that you looked at what are your plans? Look for another bird? Turbo bird? Something else?

holy crap... i know theres a some differences in "color" but holy cow... last time i checked when man was discriminating color the US was in its pitfall.... color is color... i don't care if its rainbow bright... gay pride or whatever to your bike... its YOUR bike, YOU take pride in it.. who cares what others think about it. You know you could cream them on the road, and thats all that matters.... hell im sure theres someone out there (hopefully a woman) who has a pink bird....
| Whoooaa, Mike...It's all in fun!! We've got 51 pages (so far) of fun (mostly) over there! I think the ones that took themselves too seriously don't post in the color thread anymore. The rest of us are just havin fun. Check it out and have a laugh, but don't take it seriously!
Now...you went from manofwar19d to deathwish01???

I (for the others following this thread) checked out what I thought was to be the "replacement" for the red bike yesterday. I drove 200 miles each way to end up confused, and devoid of any and all enthusiasm for what I thought ( via description and photos) was going to be my next beloved bike. I was sadly suprised after I took the other bike for a test ride. It was a Turbo'd 00' XX. Once the boost rolled on, it pulled wonderfully. Second gear roll on wheelies, no problem. A lot of other details added up to a non sale. I had been eyeballing this bike for almost 3 months and I felt for sure that this was the ticket. This bike would solidly put me in the mid to high 9's in the 1/4 mile and be a great touring rig. Unfortunately though, it wasn't 1/2 as clean as my bike. The paint was nearly flawless(must have been resprayed) but the rest of it wasn't what I expected. I mean it wasn't all that bad at all but I wasn't looking for a project that would require as much as it would to be where I'd want it to be.
As we all know, Honda has no plans to introduce a new XX. I am brand loyal up to a point but for as great of a bike that the XX is, I would never find another one that was farkled and mod'd to where mine is, as clean as mine is, for nearly the same price. For Christ sakes,,, I have bench polished the fairing bolts on my bike !! That's kinda anal.
So when I found out today that Mike had never owned a bike before and had only minimal experience on an XX, I got concerned. I know, I know, once the sale is done, then it's not my problem. In the real world this is true. I'd just hate to hear that someone as excited as Mike has been about this ( and I promise he'll be even more so when he see's my efforts with keeping this bike as clean as I have ) would have a mishap of any kind that would total his bike or make his wife a widow.
I do have a little suggestion for Mike to consider. When you decide to paint it ( I know you were thinking about doing it this winter) maybe you would be better off waiting untill next winter. Get used to it first. If it tips over on you as you are learning it, the pain will be far less. | Wise words my friend, I'm sure you'll find the "right" replacement. Good luck!

I'm looking into the ZX14's at this point. I've got a lot of learning to do about them. The aftermarket is busy for that bike and it's easy to even find some used parts. Most of them are quicker than I have ever been and with exhaust, intake filter, 2nd flies removed (unless it's an 08') and a good map/dyno tune are making HP in the 180 range and TQ between 100-115 ft/lbs. Stout numbers. In the 240hp range with a well mapped dry shot.
240 hp on a longer wheelbase = 8.80's in the 1/4!!!!!
I'm not going that exact direction but WOW.
