I have a line on a brand new 2003 Blackbird in a crate that was privately bought and stored for safe keeping.

owner has decided that he is going to unload it at a good price but will only deal with a friend of mine.

Kind of a strange situation but if someone is serious about buying a new Bird in a crate from the NorthEast area let me know and I will hook you up with the seller. New Jersey area.

I'll take anything that will work....

But, you're quite correct, the only way to get it registered in Cali would be to register it as a used bike, and it must have a minimum of 7500 miles on the bike before you can even do that.

I paid $7003 out the door at a dealer in Reno last February for my '03 with just under 3000 miles on it, and I KNOW that was a great deal. (Then I put 4700 miles on it before moving to Calif and registering it here, although I believe that since I was a NV resident when I bought it in NV, I had an exemption from the 7500 used vehicle BS on a 49 states model.)

Ok Folks, here is the scoop !!

Tripledigits has decided to pass on the Bird. Mostly due to miscommunication on my part. Conq was kind enough to reopen this thread for me to straighten this out.

The Bird is not BRAND new in the factory crate but instead was assembled and run almost 300 miles, then an oil and filter change was done without removing the Plastics. So the only wrenching done on the Bird at all was the oil drain plug !

The Bike now has 432 miles on it and is flawless without so much as a scratch on it. The crate itself was custom made for the assembled Bird for storage and is shown in the pictures. It is a fully enclosed wood crate.
This 03 Bird is as close to BRAND new as you can get but with a few miles of breakin. At $7000.00 it is a steal.

The name of the person selling it is Hank and is in New Jersey.

If the dealer assembled and "delivered" the bike over a year ago, and no extended warranty was purchased, then I guess
not.

Not that that is a biggie... it is a Honda, after all....

I'll bet this is one of the 50+ XX's owned by East Coast Cycle, in Philly. I bought my 2003 from them in May 2005 and they had about 35 left in stock. Mine cost me $7900 with no miles on the clock. If you can pick this up for $7K it's a STEAL. I just wish I had 7k to spare. Good find John.
