FS 2003 BLACK BIRD

2003 Black Bird with 4300 miles looks brand new, has ext warrenty until 2010. Completly stock. It was bought new in 2005. The #4 piston has cold seized and was ticking. The motor is currently out of the bike, and the head has been removed. The cylinder does not look that bad, it may just need to be honed out.The piston needs to be removed and cylinder measured to be sure. It was running fine before we took the motor out, just making the ticking noise. All of this work had been done by a Honda dealership, and that is were it is located. Any questions just send a pm. Thanks

$5800 as it is

Re: FS 2003 BLACK BIRD

I talked to the service tech and he said it may have been caused from the bike sitting inbetween rides? Not really sure. The bike is dis-assembled I can get pics if you want. The bike ran great, even with the ticking noise. I drove it aound the block, couldn,t tell any diff. Warranty would not cover the repair because they could not find anything that broke.

That is BS !!

Warranty has to cover it if there is only 4300 miles on it.

Accept nothing less, period !

Re: FS 2003 BLACK BIRD

I work for a Yamaha dealer (I know, I know) if she has extended till 2010, the dealership has to honor that, they have to find out why, put a parts\labor est together for Honda, submit for approval...then FIX IT!!!
DO NOT let them off the hook man.

Re: FS 2003 BLACK BIRD

i think he put power comander in mis adjusted and reved the death out of it like they do while dynoing your bike beat it silly .however if honda didnt do it then its his fault and honda wont cover because he put it in ..you now how they want you to start bike rev between 7k and 10,500k and all that well i think thats what might be the case here..IMO

Re: FS 2003 BLACK BIRD

The guy who owned it is a retired air force pilot, who ownes five other bikes. He also ran a pro stock nhra bike in the late 80s. I think he knows how to maintain a motorcycle and ride one. And no I havn't seen any other Bird have this problem before. It was offered to me but I do not have the funds. I thought it was a decant deal, anyone with some mechanical knowledge could get it back together with very little money invested and have a very nice bike. If you are not interested thank you for looking. But I wanted to pass this along to a group of people whom appreciate the Balck Bird.

...apparently not, there is either a reason Honda is refusing to honor the terms of the warranty or you are simply going about it the wrong way. If it is truly a defect on Honda's part and the bike is warranteed as you state the dealer has no choice but to step up. It is exactly these types of situations that would warrant a person to purchase a warranty in the first place.

Re: FS 2003 BLACK BIRD

Let's say maybe a turbo was fitted to the stock bike & spooled up a little too much boost for the stock bird & as a result "rattle rattle rattle tick tick tick" ??? The dealer noticed this & voided the warranty ?

Im not trying to make enemies just adding my comment to the post, sorry to here that about your bike, & Im not trying to offend anyone. But If it were me I would not stand for it, I would probably take to the bike to another dealer & have them contact Honda Immediately to get straightened out.

Re: FS 2003 BLACK BIRD

What kind of airplane fuel? Av-gas (100LL), jet A or JP-4? I'd go for the $580.00 offer.

Mr. Hemi.

Re: FS 2003 BLACK BIRD

Lemme see here... the thought process that was involved

can I put this here can of airplane fuel in a vehicle with no wings?

well, the vehicle shares the name of a vehicle that has some wings.

both vehicles have a gas tank and some wheels to roll around on

both vehicles have a place to sit yer butt and some foot pedals that do stuff

both vehicles have dials with numbers on them and windshield to look through

ehhh... what the hell, close enough
