| Salt Lake City - Wendover....
I took the Blackbird from Salt Lake City to Wendover this past weekend to do some drag racing. The ride itself is boring...100 miles of straight, flat freeway. (It would actually be awesome for a high speed run...its just that I've grown attached to having my drivers license. ) Anyway, I went out to Wendover Raceway ( www.wendoverraceway.com ) which is what they're calling an Outlaw Track. There isn't much in the way of rules...no tech inspection, no return road, no guard rails, you get an e.t. but no trap speed, etc. It works because everyone there is cool, laid back, and respects each other....and it was fun as hell! I ended up running consistent 11.9's. That may sound slow, but the track is at least 4400 feet above sea level and isn't what you'd exactly call 'race-prepped'. The track is actually an old runway at Wendover Airfield. For reference, though, I was beating a guy on a newer R1 (who admittedly wasn't comfortable launching his bike....of course, neither was I.) I cruised out to the Bonneville Salt Flats too. Unfortunately it was a still a little too wet to take a spin on the bike out there...but I'll be back in September for Speed Week! I'll try to post pics....the hangar picture is Hangar 1831 at Wendover Airfield. It is where the Enola Gay was stationed and where they flew training missions....interesting bit of WWII history there. | |

Sounds like a fun trip! Did you race w/ your top box on? Had no idea the Enola Gay was at Wendover.

No, I took the top box off for racing. Those Givi boxes are sweet...lockable, waterproof, easily removed, etc. I'm in the process of signing up for the Speed Trials by BUB...where you go out on the salt and run as fast you can. I just joined the AMA today...and will be entering the 'Run What You Brung' soon. www.speedtrialsbybub.com Thinking about adding some Stage2 jets to the bike before then, though. |

I ride just about everywhere I go....I live around 4500 South and 1100 West. What part of town are you in? What do you mean 'hit big'?

Ah ok...I'm sure I've ridden up all the canyons, but I don't get crazy in them like some guys do. I like going straight and fast...not such a big fan of the curves, ha ha. Lately I've been out on my Yamaha more than anything else...getting the Blackbird ready for Bonneville. I'll keep an eye out for another Bird up around Ft. Union...I know the area. |

hit me up again for a ride. got a buddy with a CBR 1000RR and we did trappers loop and the old Snowbasin road last night. Always up for a ride around the SLC area. May be doing the Bear Lake loop the 15th or 22nd, you interested if we do?

we did trappers and the old snowbasin road last Sunday night, very cool looking down on Pineview at dusk. Our loop is up to Brigham City and through Sardine Canyon to Logan, through Logan Canyon to Garden City/Bear Lake. Then back down through Woodruff and over Monte Cristo. This drops us out in Ogden Canyon above Pineview, then over trappers to I-84 and home. If we get it together I'll let you know for sure.
