Bike Week 2009

so harley bike week is over and from what I've seen on the web didn't look like the city of Myrtle Beach faired to well with all the new ordinances and laws.

Businesses feel the pinch of bikers' boycott : News : WPDE

wonder how memorial day weekend will do

.... back to you ARMY.

Re: Bike Week 2009

Classic deflection of blame by the politician. Citing the economy when it's cheaper to travel by bike than by auto, easier to find parking and so on. Cities that pass ordinances that specifically or indirectly target bikes cut off their noses to spite their faces. Downtown Colordao Springs did this around the Acacia Park area and I refused to go, much less spend any money at the businesses in that area because of the ordinances they passed. I was not alone as a LOT of people that owned motorcycles did the same. Street racing cars weren't targeted with their aftermarket exhausts, only bikes without OEM exhaust systems.

Those cities and those like them deserve everything they don't get. I say screw them and the city councils that govern them. If it's a fair ordinance (and I don't know what was passed that brought on this reaction specifically) so be it, but singling out a specific sector of the population will bring rewards. Maybe not ALL of what was intended, but until it's rewritten, repealed, or the council is voted out of office......they're stuck with it. ALL of it.

The economy, he says. Ha! Was the economy so good this time last year? I will be there this weekend, and I will report back! I still suspect there will be a lot going on in the surrounding towns. I bet rooms'll be cheap!!

To much Bedonkadonk I guess for the town "leaders". Put up with the 1% malcontent faction for a few days, rake in millions. Seems like a logical plan to me.

Re: Bike Week 2009

The main thing they wanted was to ban straight pipes. I'm for that. I hate to hear a bunch of Harleys ridden by accountants playing "follow the leader".

They think they are individuals but the wear the same uniform, ride the same bikes +/- a few chrome bits, ride around SLOWLY in groups, .... I saw a group of 10 yesterday; the only difference was the color of their bandannas and one wore ear plugs.

They do block some traffic. You get lots of highway passing practice. You first need to pass the cars, pick-ups and mini-vans that stack up behind them, then you pass the nine Harleys!

Re: Bike Week 2009

I spent my Memorial Day weekend riding down the beaches of the Gulf Coast (Biloxi, Gulfport, and surrounding towns) and even to New Orleans one time and back. First time with my XX on the highway and loved it. 180+ baby!!
