Americade - 2009

The event takes place this year from June 1-6: Welcome to Americade

We've been to this event the last two years and it is awesome! I'll be riding up with my wife on Monday, June 1 and coming back home on Thursday, June 4. I am already pre-registered for the "Mountain and/or Market" ride on Tuesday. I did this ride last year and it was awesome. On Wedesday we plan on doing a ride up to and around the Lake Placid area then back to Lake George.

Last year we met Alex (Angelski19) as well as some other really nice people.

Hopefully we'll meet some more Blackbird riders this year. Anyone else plan on going this year?

Re: Americade - 2009

Nope. It's an all-brand event. There are a lot of HD's, but because it's mainly a touring-bike rally there are a lot of non-HD touring and sport-touring bikes, too, although sportbikes are the minority. The location is awesome and the riding is spectacular.

Re: Americade - 2009

Although I won't be there for obvious reasons I'm curious. When I had my Harley I went to the Oyster Run on Whitby Island, Wash. There were thousands of bike, mostly Harleys. I found myself not enjoying riding with so many bikers around me. I avoid rallies and all large group rides. Do you enjoy having so many other bikers around you when you ride? Just curious.

Cool
At least some of the big rides are staying. Just read that the Honda Hoot a 15 yr running event has been cancelled for good due to the "current economic crunch" by Honda themselves here in the US.

No, I don't. I prefer to ride at my own pace and stop when or where I please. That is why I love Americade. Many of the rides offer a specific destination but how fast you ride to get there or how many times you stop is up to you. There are guided rides offered in which you will be part of a group, but I like the unguided ones. Americade takes place in Adirondack Park which is comprised of six million acres, so you will never feel crowded.

Re: Americade - 2009

I was out there last fall with my bro and another guy. Beautiful country. The other guy goes every year and this year I might just tag along with him. We went in from Vermont and passed by ( I think Ft. Tyconderaga) a pretty cool bridge. I'd go again just to see the fort.

My wife and I will be staying again at the Adirondack Park Motel in Bolton Landing. Have you signed up for any specific rides?

Ahhhh, it sounds like you were on Vermont Route 17, an amazing tight, twisty road with elevation changes that goes through the Appalachian Gap. Correct?

I think it was Paul. I can say we went through a mountain pass that had incredible views and twisties that will be traveled again!

Re: Americade - 2009

Hi, My wife and I will be riding up from NH.
Last year's solo trip was cut short when my wife called at 5am on the 2nd day to say our daughter had just gone into premature labor so I had breakfast and road to the hospital to see her and my new grandson.

Congratulations on the birth of your grandson!

Do you have a Blackbird? You should post an introduction in the "Introductions" forum so we can welcome you to the site.

Re: Americade - 2009

Once again, Americade was awesome! One of the rides my wife and I did was a 210 miler thoughout the central Adirondack lake region, passing through Lake Placid (home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics). The roads were incredible. So were the views.

We saw some Blackbirds:
- A 2003 with Massachusetts plate
- A 2003 with Florida plate
- Waved to a guy riding a 2002
- Met a guy named Frank from Philadelphia with a 1997, I think he said, that had a Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" logo on the front cowl.

Are these Birds from anybody on this site?

Next year I'll see you there! Laconia is in two weeks and there will be some club racing. It's a small event, but an event nonetheless.
